Poster: A snowHead

I been reading of the 3V's Escapade. (Visiting the far extremeties of the 3V's). Is this a practical idea? Clearly, travelling 2 or 3 V's away is a risk, many 100's euros to get from Val Thorens back to Courchevel if lifts or slopes close.
Only ever been in Courchevel and Meribel valleys before. Unfortunatly, last year the weather was against me (also didnt really know the area), initially no snow then lots with great avalanche risk so many slopes closed start of days by the end of the week. From the long range forcast, no major snow due in next week or so, just lots of sun and Plus temps during the day. Could this be an opportunity to stretch the system?

I was in Courhevel 1850 last year.... we didn't do the escapade, but to give you an idea of timing, we DID traverse all the way over to the Val Thorens glacier and got back in time to meet our friends for lunch at the Courchevel mid station... Weather was good and clear, so we never worried about getting stuck...

We stayed in Le Praz a couple of years ago, and were over in Val T by mid morning each day.....should be fairly straightforward to do...

Starting from Orelle (below Val Thorens) we once skied over to meet friends in 1850 for 11 am coffee - so shouldn't be a problem.

fraserp, in good weather you should have no difficulty in going from one end of the 3Vs to the other and back in a day - but pick your route carefully. I did VT to Courchevel 1650 in an hour the other day - but there were no lift queues, I know the route well and I was going pretty quickly .
My 'standard' route if I fancy a quick blast from VT would be something like (read this with a piste map to hand) Plein Sud chair - Bouquetin Funitel - Lac de la Chambre red - Plan des Main Chair - Sitelle blue - (Mottaret) - Pas du Lac 1/2 gondola - Creux red - Chanrossa chair - Roc Merlet red - Pyramide blue - Indiens blue - (Courchevel 1650) - Ariondaz gondola - Petite Bosse drag - Boulevard des Gravelles blue - Aiguille du Fruit chair - Park City red - Altiport blue - (Courchevel 1850) - Chenus gondola - Col de la Loze chair - Boulevard de la Loze blue - Rhodos green - (Meribel) - Tougnettes 1/2 gondola - Jerusalem red - Biolley blue - (St Martin) - St Martin 1 gondola - St Martin 2 chair - Gros Tougne blue - Granges chair - Allemands red - Petits Creux blue - Mont de la Chambre chair - Marielle Goitschel black - Plein Sud blue - (VT). This route is straightforward for most intermediate skiers and, once you know it, will give plenty of time to do some of the other interesting runs nearby - or fit in the fourth valley. Clearly the time taken will be longer until you know where you're going and will be affected by lift queues (none here at the moment) and the size of your party.
Anyone else got a suggested route for covering the 3Vs reasonably quickly?

Thanks for all the advice.
In good weather it appears a very open area, I did experience lift closure last year that need a taxi from Meribel to 1550 though.
Has anyone out there done the 3V Escaped in one day? If so how?
Hay ho, one day (or 12 hrs and counting) to go..........

jtobin03, I'll try and time it in the next few days. For stopping - what kind of lunch are you after: cheap and cheerful sandwich or three course blow-out?

jtobin03, following the above route today (moderate speed, few queues, no stopping) gave the following elapsed times from VT:
Mottaret: 0:38
Courchevel 1650: 1:05
Courchevel 1850: 1:44
Meribel: 2:14
St Martin: 2:45
VT: 3:39
Your times may vary!
A nice place for lunch might be Caspar's (sp?) next to the Tougnette lift in Meribel. Alternatively, the BelAir at the top of the Ariondaz lift above 1650 is very nice and not too expensive if you limit yourself to a simple pasta dish.

thanks for that if i had an hour for lunch and and extra 45 mins for half term ques plus a little for getting lost should be able to get the trip in with ease it seams as if geting back is much quicker than going wouyld that be true.

Just an update on this - the 14 check points can be done in 1 day! The boys from La Tania had a go for a laugh - apparantly is was a full on day from 9am and they got back at 4:34. Doing it by yourself with a ski instructor jacket on (to avoid queues) could knock an hour off they reckon. More just posted at http://www.latania.co.uk
