Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

US style (good) pub food: Bighorn in Cham Sud

French local: Boccalatte

Pizza: Napolis or Pizzeria des Moulins

Italian: Lapin Agile

There is a very good curry house Happy

Must say Panier des 4saison never rocks my boat. My opinion.

On mountain will wait till I have a real keyboard.

It's many years since I've been to Chamonix but I had some amazing meals sitting in what was basically a car park off the road to Argentiere, on the right if you were driving from Chamonix. It was called the something R'mize.Really good food. Does it still exist?

Refuge Lognan, Argentiere

- from Grand Montets mid-station it is a short pole /skate. Alternatively you can ski down to it from the top.

Le Cafe Comptoir, Vallorcine

Mountain food dominated by Compagnie du Mont-Blanc corporate places which are neither great nor great value.

Better at Balme (on the Le Tour side with Ecuries de Charamillon and the Refuge de Balme) and at Les Houches where most places are independent so e.g. the Taniere is nice.

Refuge Lognan does nothing for me!

The younger members my family are big fans of Poco Loco, the burger place the centre (almost opposite to Snells). Vibrant, quirky and cheap.

I went to la Tablee last week for the first time and really enjoyed it - traditional-ish Savoyard nosh.

Echo the comments of @under a new name, re mountain food. Many of the areas have OK places at the bottom, so the Marmottons is OK at the bottom of GM, couple of good cafes in Vallorcene at the bottom of the gondola, etc.

Very much like la Ferme (?) on the hill at Les Houches.

My new favourite is La Cremerie des Aiguilles. Very cosy place with good value food. It is however out at Les Gaillands, so a mile or so out of town.

@HammondR, good point re bases - the Olympic at the base of Le Tour is OK. There's a reasonably interesting looking tapas bar in Argentiere that we only noticed at the weekend.

Haven't been in La Tablée in years but eat regularly at the Boccalatte next door.

Ah, also as long as you book, the Vielle Luge in Les Houches is very nice but not cheap.

Haven't eaten at La Cremerie Des A's but friends like it.

Bartavel beside the cinema Vox does a nice sole meuniere (and has a broad menu including pizza).

For fine dining we are currently liking the Cabane (le Praz), lunch menu at the Cap Horn, the Telecabine and of course Mickey's at Le Matafan.

Yep, Poco Loco is epic, best burgers for miles and nice grog - also the big pizza place opposite does a very good value 3 course lunch, can't remember the name but it has loads of outside tables. We sat inside given the weather.....
