Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I haven't seen a stance like that since Craig Kelly. I've got one of me on my first day on a home made board in 1991 on tape somewhere, I'll will try to get online.

Actually Craig, who I rode with once or twice, tucked his back knee in, which I hope you'll see is a rather different style. Most "alpine stance" people (me included) shifted from that in about '94 or so. There should be air between those knees at all times.

Banning GoPro? Good luck with that. You could probably save yourself a lot of trouble by just not watching video.

Yes, I get your point, it's clearly over used, but you can always walk away...

On the other hand... I've shot stills for years and nothing gets the feel of the sport quite like the selfie GoPro video. Totally over used by me and others, but having shot with the odd (very odd) film crew, it's way easier to use a GoPro and the results can be respectable. My family absolutely never understood what I was doing playing around doing that snowboard ballet spotty kiddie stuff on rails.... 30 seconds of a GoPro video put them right: now they get it.

My own pet peeve as a photographer is arbitrary crops. Eg the thumbnail on the first post here - someone chopped off the guy's legs. If it's deliberate that's ok, but it seldom appears to be. Chopping off the rider's head seems particularly weird.

Perhaps it's a fashion which will pass, although I think the future will hold more cameras not less.

I think there's also a huge learning opportunity with video. Most snowboarding videos show people making obvious mistakes (stiff legs, weight in the wrong place, torquing the board around). All those basic riding problems are extremely obvious in video, and are easy enough to correct.

Welcome to snow heads - where was that powder?

BC had slightly better conditions that the previous year (above). This was shot in 4k, although obviously you don't get that for free from Vimeo...

Some nice vids.
Just out of interest, do any of you have any problems with copyright on the music you use in your videos / what do you do to get round it? Most of this music ( e.g The Strokes ) is not in the public domain AFAIK, and sites like vimeo and youtube issue all sorts of warnings about not using copyrighted music in your videos... Just wondering that's all.

Vimeo will prevent you publishing a video if they recognise that the soundtrack is copyright. From what I recall they will sell you the rights to use some things.

They will most certainly pick up modern music which is just copied. Derivative works are more complicated, as demonstrated by the Strokes with the guitar riff on that track.

You can look for music which has been released under a Creative Commons license, which allows free sharing and use. You're normally OK to use these as long as you credit the artist at some point and you don't choose a piece which has been released under a specific No Derivative Works license as adding music to a video would count as transforming the music into another medium.

Search for "Creative Commons Music" for more info and to find portals to CC
