 Poster: A snowHead

Loved Obergurgl and Lech - as we save all year as a group, looking for high altitude/snow sure, ski in and out, hotel with great spa, ideally a small town (or at least a few shops), quiet slopes and plenty for intermediates (I.e no smaller than Obergurgl - ideally a bit bigger). I know this is some list. Considering Obertauern, Fiss, Cervinia, Cortina D'Ampezzo. Have mainly skied Austria but like the idea of Italy or Switzerland ...... Any ideas? Thanks

@Simbabutton, If you do Cervinia, you can also ski in Zermatt or the other way round. The link sometimes gets closed due to high winds. Zermatt is one of my favourite resorts and I prefer the skiing there but Cervinia would probably suit the intermediates better as a base.

@Whitegold, has a bit of a propensity for naming resorts that are fashionable rather than those that fit your criteria.
I have skied Zermatt and Klosters but not St Moritz, they are excellent resorts with excellent skiing although quite pricey.
They are certainly not particularly great for quiet slopes or ski in ski out. Klosters is not exactly high altitude either, though it's skiing is pretty snow sure.

Thank you - yes whilst we want a little luxury I don't want to necessarily go to the fashionable resorts. Quieter slopes and ski in and out are fairly important criteria for us.

@Simbabutton, Mürren or Wengen might work.
Hotel Mascognaz above Champoluc? Really rather special and unusual.
Cortina is not really ski in and out.
I find Cervinia boring but hey.
Courmayeur also not ski in/out (a vastly over-rated criteria IMO) but a very pleasant village and outstanding food possibilities.
Ignore Whitegold. I don't believe he's ever been skiing.

Regarding Cortina and based on your requirements:
high altitude/snow sure: Cortina itself is quite low at 1200m but several of the ski sectors are quite high at over 2000m
ski in and out: as already mentioned, not a ski in/ski out resort and most lifts are a bus ride from the centre
hotel with great spa: several good options for hotels with spas
ideally a small town (or at least a few shops): Cortina is quite a large town and has lots of shops
quiet slopes: From lunchtime onwards the slopes can be very quiet
plenty for intermediates: Yes plenty here for intermediates
