 Poster: A snowHead

Looks like Vanessa Mae has won a her defamation case against FIS for implying she broke the rules to qualify for the Sochi Olympics. She didn't break them but she certainly bent them out of shape! Now that she's won that she is reportedly working to qualify for the S Korean Olympics which I'm sure she'll qualify for given the lack of skiers in Thailand. I'd like to think it reminds me of Eddie the Eagle who competed against all odds (after which the Olympic Committee changed its rules so that he couldn't do it again), but somehow it doesn't seem the same as a rich kid effectively using her wealth rather than sporting achievement to compete on the world stage. Or am I just being a grumpy old git?

yes, you are a grumpy old git. It might have been only her wealth (earned by being rather good at playing the violin, after years and years of sheer hard work and dedication) which enabled her to spend time being good at skiing but she has nailed the "sporting achievement" required.
There will be a lot of British athletes in the Olympics who haven't much chance of winning medals. Should they all be chucked out in favour of the sailors and cyclists?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

And there will some teams in that endless bloody procession which have no hope of winning any medals at all. Throw them out too?

It's just a pity the BSS don't take the same attitude and send some of our athletes who make the standard. |

Spotted her in the Funicular in La Daille, Val D'Isere in full racing kit with an instructor in Jan. Unfortunately I didn't get to see her ski.

Wonder if I am still blocked from Konrad B's facebook page for daring to disagree with him!

They need to ban all the crappy athletes from the Olympics.
It is a waste of their time, as well as everyone else's.
Only exception should be if they are hot, lol.

Vanessa has been training all season (since October) in Val & Tignes. Not sure if she has been doing many races but looking good in training.

Well that could be discussed Based on CAS verdict, she did "nailed the sporting achievement", but in reality she did it only because everyone involved were cheating. Her results (without being tailored) didn't bring her anywhere near qualifications limits, and "being good at skiing" is not something she managed to do till now, and most likely she will be never anywhere near level, where someone could tell she's "good at skiing".

primoz, She was training in the next lane to me in Tignes in November, I think she would make the qualification standard now.
