Poster: A snowHead
|
Folks
I have been skiing for the last 4 years in Les Gets. We really love the traditional feel of the resort, access to the slopes and wide range of beginner green, blue and easy red runs. Whilst we could happily go back to LG each year I am keen to get some ideas as to where else we could go that has similar characteristics. All input appreciated. Thx
Howard

Les Saisies, though not if you want to be surrounded by people speaking English.

Megeve/St Gervais for the slopes and the real town feel, but not such convenient access to the slopes. Probably less crowded than LG though.

There's a great curry house in Annemasse?

Been to quite a few resorts, all in France and have skied in Morzine/Les Gets for years, still do, and the only other resort I ever thought came close was Serre Chevalier... all down to personal taste I suppose.

Lots of places in Austria would hit the spot for "traditional feel", "easy access" and a wide range of easy pistes. Zell am Zee would suit you well, as would Serfaus. Austria doesn't use the green run designation, but don't worry about that as they have the very easy pistes they just call them blue.

Megeve for sure. It is very quaint and has some amazing restaurants and bars. It is not like a lot of other french resorts and is very oldy worldy with horse and cart rides around the village. The pistes are tree lined too unlike many other ski resorts.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

La Grave is also traditional snowy not too purpose built and has the same initials worth trying out.

Megeve has a lovely centre, but is quite sprawly, and some accommodation is not too convenient for liftes/pistes. Generally quite expensive. Village itself is relatively low - won't always have snow in the village. Take a fur coat and carry a wee dog, and you'll feel like part of the scenery. One of the biggest concentrations of Michelin starred restaurants outside Paris. Nice scenic skiing.
