Hi All,
I usually go on group ski trips, however with differing work schedules it has become difficult to organise a trip, so I have thought, Sod It, going solo. (Only live once : ) )
I have booked a slot in an owners direct apartment just outside Morzine (St Jean Aulps).
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to meet people whilst in resort? Slightly scared as I have never been on a solo ski trip before.
In addition, advice for skiing in and around Morzine, transport links etc?
I am competent skier and was thinking about doing a couple of group ski tours.
Any help would be really appreciated
Thank you
Ali
(Dates i am out there are: 2nd - 11th March 2016).

Welcome to SHs @Ali_STN. There are some excellent ski schools in the area. How about signing up for group lessons?
Will you have transport?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hi Pam
Thank you for the reply, I am a ski instructor, and so was probably looking for a guided ski tour in the area.
I will be using public transport.
Thanks again.

@Ali_STN, plenty of SHs who are ski instructors still have tuition. getting around from St Jean might complicate things a bit.

I came on here to post something similar, which I will still do.
Although i cant give any advice as this will only be my 3rd time away boarding, and i haven't been to Morzine before, I am also looking for people to meet with, either on the slopes or in the bars. I am only a beginner so probably no good for meeting on the slopes, but if you wanted a beer i could do that. I am there 3 nights from the 8th.

@Ali_STN, Good for you for going solo. I frequently go on my own and it is very liberating.
Are you committed to your apartment stay? I only ask as it is probably not the easiest way to meeting people. In my experience hotels or hostels are better as you meet people at meal times or in dorm rooms.
I can recommend UCPA centres in France, although I don't think there is one in Morzine. Have a look on Action Outdoors website (they are the UK booking agent) You share room with others and it's full board including hire, so no need to take your own.
If you prefer the apartment then as @pam w, says getting lessons or going on guided day will help you meet others.
I've never been to Morzine but I believe there are many companies offering transfers from Geneva.
Whatever you decide to do have fun.

Chalets are also a good way to meet others to socialise and ski with. Some may have single rooms with lower single supplement as your trip is soon.

Oh and just for future reference Snowhead Bashes are a great fun and super value, plus you can have your own room for a supplement or share with same sex for great deal if you find your self skiing alone again.

Not far as the crow flies......
and the crow might get a bit wet this week. Rain/snow level up and down a bit, looks like rain at lower levels from time to time, if Meteo France is to be believed.

well, that's what you'd expect, from the same forecast. But they don't all tell the same story. FL is not certain.

@speachmaus, for the French side of the PDS (and the Grand Massif into the bargain) Chamonix Meteo and Meteo-Chamonix are widely considered to be pretty much best forecast. Meteo France also still have feet on the ground in Chamonix.
I don't put much store in Snow-Forecast. At all. Most of the graphical forecasts are only as good as you'd expect from computer interpreted models. Human experience and local knowledge makes an enormous difference.
I find Meteo blue a much better digital forecast https://www.meteoblue.com/en/weather/forecast/week/avoriaz_france_3035648
And neither Cham Met nor Met Blue are suggesting either 100cms nor much confidence in the forecast.

Back on topic...Ali, if you are in StJd'A, ask around in Bar National. You might find more chums there although clearly there are a few bites here.
Oh, and suggest you change your thread title to reflect that your looking for ski buddies... Might help.

@2weird2die, season pass? Yes I believe you can, no idea of price. I think you have to turn your local pass in for the day.
