Wonder how many takes! Anyone know where it's filmed? They didn't have much snow.

I can't remember where it is filmed but it would have been over a period of time at the end of last leason

@leggyblonde, @madlondoner, Val Blanc (Areches-Beaufort????) - says in the description on Youtube. Also must have been at the end of last season or at the start of this.

So good it's even been posted on Snowboarding Forum. General consensus is that Candide gets a pass.

Brilliant, some really nice touches - e.g the lanterns in the tunnels. And worth watching more than once, I completely missed the paraglider on the first viewing.

The scene where he skis through a TV crew van and then over the "tour de France" cyclists was filmed last July on the Col de l'Iseran. The few seconds of footage took 3 days to set up and film.

I must be the only person who finds his recent special effect driven stuff much less entertaining than his older actual skiing stuff then?

@8611, special effects?
There is a lot of pre-planned set up stuff....but no blue screen or CGI

I found this one had too many 'cuts' and made it difficult to watch. Still some epic skiing though.

No CGI work there as far as I can see.
Just a lot of time, effort and skill from everyone involved in the short. Not just Candide

I don't think its real, I don't think much of it is skied and I think some of it is CGI'd. Much preferred the Candide Camera stuff, beautiful fluid skiing and the trailer for few words which remains my favourite piece of ski porn. This to me has nothing to do with skiing really.

Which bits were CGI'd and not skied in your opinion?

He seems to travel pretty easily across some decent sized grass patches towards the end. Is that possible? I'd imagine you would slow down a lot / stop completely??

I don't know about this one, but on the 2nd one, where he jumps off the on-ramp for a chairlift, the people on the chair are definitely CGI.

I think the tunnels are CGI (perhaps someone in La Clusaz where I presume it was filmed can confirm - certainly wasn't there in Jan when I was there) and almost certainly the bridge, where he emerges into a forest which isn't visible before the bridge. The bit where he goes into a house and through the broken window.
The skis to me don't move naturally at times and he appears to leave and start turning on some of the jumps a bit early. He's an incredibly talented skier and I've no doubt he's capable of any of these jumps, but in order to appreciate something like this I think you need to see it 3rd person. I didn't like the last one and I like this one less but I'm obviously in the minority in that regard.

Also obv the grass. Has anyone seen his Quattro ad? I assume they filmed him skiing with a GPS camera and then filmed the same co-ordinates in Summer.

From the video, the start is the junction between LAPIAZ and FERNUY which would make it La Clusaz, at least then!

Thanks for your interesting thoughts. Certainly what you say is a possibility. I guess we'll have to see more "making of" to know more.

This was filmed at the end of last season so I would be very surprised if the tunnels hadn't melted in the meantime.

Yeah, I'm still unsure about that video too. He carries a lot of speed on the grass and leaves etc! I'd be interested to know how much of it is real. Obviously the bit at the end where he lands in the boot of the car is faked.

Obviously at least some clever editing to switch from one area to another. The clip where he goes under the bridge/through the tunnel is neat.
Surprised that no one has pointed out the most likely piece of CGI, when he jumps over the helicopter, I'd be surprised if they let him do that. However CGI seems a bit odd to me, given that it's only really two sponsors that you see throughout. Maybe Faction and Quiksilver really are pumping in enough cash to do that, but seems extravagant to me.

Well i can't comment but Ed leigh (ski sunday) says that all the main tricks (including the helicopter one) are real. And if you look at that bit, the blades arent turning particularly fast, possibly for safety reasons.
