I suppose it depends what you are looking for and your budget. Iglu currently has over 11,000 ski holidays in France for the 2nd April and over 6000 for the 26th March. As pam_w says there are lots of places available if you book direct and DIY. I was in Meribel in the first week of April last year and while it was slushy low down there was plenty of good snow higher up. Wait and book last minute and follow the snow.

2011 was horrific, we were in Les Arcs then and it was awful, but conditions were similar pretty much everywhere

@Boris, Easter Sunday was April 24th in 2011 (so late that I didn't go) whereas this Easter it is March 27th, 4 weeks earlier. It makes a big difference. I was in Les Arcs last Easter, April 5th, and the conditions were fantastic.

@johnE, but it's not just about Easter dates. Les Saisies closes around 23 April. Sometimes there's lots of snow on closing day but in 2011 the station closed a week early, the first time anyone could remember. I drove through Aosta on 1 April and it was 30 degrees. We had a picnic lunch near one of the Les Houches chairs, with nothing but green grass to be seen. The station was completely closed as were, IIRC, Flegere and Brevent.

@johnE, I think when most people mention Easter for a trip they're talking about school hols. I know when we headed out it was something like the 2nd Apr and the start of our Easter school hols.

@hammerite, I have always wondered which week people meant when they said Easter; was it the week containing Good Friday or the week containing the Easter bank holiday. I never thought they would mean any other time. But I have been caught out in the past with the Orthodox Easter.

@johnE, I think it could mean either of those weeks or it could mean the school Easter holidays which could be different again. Back when I was in school the Easter holidays always used to be the week before and after Easter.
At my sons school though, they seem to schedule the "Easter" holidays for the same 2 weeks every year regardless of when easter actually falls. Presumably the idea is to keep the terms the same every year. So this year the 2 week holiday is from 2nd - 17th April. They still get Good Friday and Easter Monday off obviously, but then go back to school on Tuesday 29th before breaking up for the main holiday on 1st April.

@johnE, indeed it was a late Easter, we went at start of school hols which was 9th April but it was a terrible season throughout. We had gone mid Jan as well and it hasn't snowed for weeks and didn't snow again before Easter

This probably gives an idea of just how bad it was! This was the only run open into Arc 1800
In the 8 years I've been going there at Easter I have never seen it as bad as this

@Boris, I have to say I found it all quite amusing. At the start of the week that run was about 20 metres wide at the narrowest point, come the end of the week it was about 2 metres wide. Skied down every day due to the sheer ridiculousness of it.

Le Massif de Devolu Flaine. Les Sybelles. Le Grand Domains. Where would you choose for Easter snow (April 2nd)?

You know it makes sense.
|
@louiscrow, I have just replied on your other thread but will reply here too. I'd pick Flaine - north facing and more runs at higher altitude than the other two.

Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

But make sure it's Flaine, not other, much lower, centres in the GM.
