Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Resort for Easter weekend within easy reach of Sallanches

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
So we have managed to snag ourselves an extra weekend this year thanks to a bargain offer from the Ibis in Sallanches. We are flying in on Good Friday and plan to ski Saturday/Sunday/Monday before catching a late flight home on Monday night. We'd really prefer not to have to hire a ski rack for the car, so I'm looking for recommendations for somewhere to go with
parking reasonably close to a lift
ski hire reasonably close to a lift
    ski locker facilities

Obviously the shorter the drive from Sallanches the better but there are so many options that I have a bad case of decision paralysis! I wondered about Les Carroz but haven't been able to establish from Google whether there are locker facilities available? Or is there a better entry point to the Grand Massif? All advice gratefully received... We may well leave the actual decision until the very last minute but it would be good to establish a shortlist.

Combloux is probably one of the closest, but snow on that side might not be great by then. Megeve's not much further and parking for the Princesse lift is on the Combloux side of the village (parking in Megeve itself is stupidly expensive). Praz sur Arly (for the Espace Diamant) a few miles beyond Megeve and has a big free car park at the bottom of the Cret du Midi chair. In the other direction, Les Contamines might be good. The lower slopes might be a bit past it but you can go up (and down) by gondola and the top, east facing, part of Les Contamines is one of the best bets for snow. Chamonix is not far. Les Carroz too - though again, snow might be an issue, but you can always carry on up to Flaine.

Spoiled for choice really. I have no idea about lockers. The only ones I've come across in my area belong to ski hire shops - I've never enquired whether you can rent them for your own gear. The tourist offices of the respective resorts would know, I guess. I wasn't clear from your post whether you will bring your own skis, but don't want to carry messy skis inside a car, or are looking to rent.

You can rent magnetic ski racks pretty cheaply, I think.

But why confine yourself to skiing just one area? Sallanches is well placed for such a good range of options.

@LittleRos, yes, there are locker facilities at the gondola in Les Carroz, and one of the hire shops right opposite also advertises locker facilities.

If you wanted a wider selection of hire shops, you could park at the gondola and then take the ski bus into town (2 minutes), hire and then go back up by bus.

Les Carroz is a good jump off point for the Grand Massif. Even if the snow is not great at the top of the gondola, it's easy to get over to Flaine. And one of the great things about the Grand Massif is that if the links have been open at any point during the day and they subsequently need to close them (technical issue, high winds, etc.) they ALWAYS provide buses to get you back where you came from.
