Yeh but design rights are not as good as a patent - with something like clothing it helps protect you against direct copies but there is a whole world of fast fashion out there aiming to knock out high street versions of the stuff presented in the big fashion shows. Its not exactly the same but you want a candystriped batwing smock with hook and loop detailing you can can something pretty similar "inspired by" without the Zaras of this world being sued.
