Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snow reports - who to believe.

As I'm off to Canada in a few weeks I've been idly pursuing the snow reports. What I've noticed is a large discrepancy between the skiclub ones and the resorts. Sunshine Village is saying 36cm in the last 7 days, but skiclub only report 8cm. Same with several other resorts. Clearly the resorts want to make things look as good as possibly but when there's a large difference who do you believe?
Where do the Skiclub get their reports from - from independent sources or the resorts of somewhere else? Just musing really

David Goldsmith, amongst others, pointed out a lot of discrepancies between the Scottish reports and reality so maybe there are similar issues with Canada. If they have a rep in resort the SKGB reports use the TO figures with a bit of SCGB sauce on top.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'd say a more objective measure might be which pistes (or areas) are open. For off piste skiing it's obviously more difficult. But no single number means much. If there is 40 CMS in one spot there could be 4 cms or 200 cms in others. And it's the condition of the top few inches which often matters most, I guess.

@TommyJ, As others have said it's in the interests of ski resorts to make you think they've got great snow. The worst offender I've come across was revel stokes Facebook page. Continual posts of 'the fresh pow' and look at this photo of it 'puking down' made me very excited only to find all of this action was in the top 200m of a 2000m mountain, it was raining down below. Evil or Very Mad

If you're looking at sunshine, Iloved that spot and had great snow there on two visits, one where there was a heap of fresh most days, but the other visit (having come from a refrozen rain swept revel stoke) was to great groomed slopes - it's so cold there what falls stays good for ages...... In my limited experience.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

See you there Wink

I check webcams daily and see what is on top of lift towers or building roofs.
