Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

is a car an asset or a liability in St Moritz? How good is parking at the lift bases in peak season?
If no car how easy is it to transit between the mountains? Which is the best base village for skiing, as opposed to partying/posing? Ski group is all expert.
Thanks

Don't know about it being a liability since I was there without a car.

I never felt I miss having a car. Train goes everywhere. Also, NOT having a car means I can start from one station and finish the day wherever I happened to be at and jump on the train straight back to where I was staying.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

v@barnsleybob17, car is definitely an advantage if you want to ski the Diavolezza/Lagalb area up on the Bernina pass. Worth a visit on a powder day, especially Lagalb.

Train goes there too.

That's exactly what I mean about not having to finish the day at where you started: If you take the ski route down Diavolezza, and DON'T have a car, you can take the train back to St Moritz. But if you have a car parked at the base, you have to take the train back to the car, then drive the car back to the village Toofy Grin

Diavolezza/Lagalb are my favorite.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

From memory there are free car parks at all the base stations apart from the Corviglia train in Dorf which has a pay indoor car park. A car will make your life a lot easier if you want to get to all the areas which are not linked, though you can ski from Corvatch to Bad and catch the Signal Cable car up to the Corviglia area. All the ski areas are worth a visit. A good hotel I've stayed in is the Sonne in Bad which has a great pizza restaurant, is an easy bus ride into Dorf for a night out or window shopping if thats your thing. A fun night out is the Preda - Bergun toboggan run. Catch a 6.00 ish train to Preda, hire toboggan and 5 mile lit run to Preda, catch the train back to Preda and repeat - watch out for fat drunks taking you out though!
With a car you could stay in b+b in one of the many little villages and save a few quid. Watch out for traffic police as fines will reduce a grown man to tears.
