Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski "Courier"?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,
Falling upon the united wisdom of this forum once more.
5 of us, each with our own kit, flying to Madonna di Campiglio.

I noticed on here some mention of companies specialising in the delivery and return of your own kit from home to the resort, and back again. It sounds so much more civilised than carting all that stuff through the airports.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks
Iain

These are the ones that I know of:

http://www.pisteofmind.com
https://www.sendmybag.com
http://www.skis2you.com
http://fetchmyluggage.co.uk

I used to use Piste of Mind, because they had their own vans delivering British food and such like to chalets in France, and they were good value. But they, like all the others (as far as I know), now just use UPS and DHL etc to deliver your kit. They have special deals with these couriers, that you can't get direct from them.

I last used Piste of Mind in 2015, and they used DHL. The service was very good and on time; but it was very pricy. The cost for 1 x 20Kg ski bag and 1 x 20Kg luggage was £215.00 return. Quote Snowheads and you will get a 5% discount.

The cost with Ryanair would be £110.00 return for the same kit; and with Swiss Air it would be even less as they take skis for free. Each airline will be different of course.

You will get some sort of discount for the 5 of you.

The upside is you are not dragging all your kit around; and you don't have to wait for baggage drop or collection. But the downsides are:

Cost — it's not cheap.
You have to print labels out and attached them to your bags.
You have to have your bags ready for collection a few days before your trip.
You have to wait in for them to collect your bags on a given day.
Your bags will not be returned until a few days after the end of your trip.
You have to wait in for them to return your bags on a given day.
The hotel/chalet has to be happy to store your gear until you arrive; and to keep it until it's collected.

At least you can track the progress of your bags on the internet; and there is a chance they could get lost or delayed; but the airlines are good at that as well.

Bottom line: I don't think it's worth it really. Better to spend the money on a nice big taxi to the airport etc.

If there are 5 of you, you could get some quotes from http://www.anyvan.com. You might be surprised at how low they can be!

Good luck!
