justino1973, I dont think they will get rain - it got much colder over the last few days we were there and even when it felt mild it was below freezing in the shade.

hi everyone
weather is better than you could have dreamed of today. clear blue skys and warm weather. gotgeous power. alas yesterday AM was not the case. visiblity was extreamly bad. and alas i had a fall. the 1st day, 3rd hour and i have gone and broken my collar bone.
if only i had waited for weather to clear. its real dream ski weather today. But hey ho it happens. i got my portable dvd player and apres ski. my group was talking of going home as there a loyal bunch and didnt want to go out a man down. but i told them im use to spending time "billu no mates style" because i travel occasionly for work and therefore have to entertain myself when in alone in evenings in hotel.
to be honest its 1st day alone and im bored senseless already!
hope everyone else is avinbg a better or had a better hol.
i aparantly cant ski for at least four weeks. do you rekon i will have time to catch the snow train end session

Going to Andorra this Sunday, arrive 7pm, heading to Encamp. Now its looking like a whole lot of snow is going to come down over the weekend so....
Which is the best route?
Should Encamp be ok as it is lower than Pas/Soldeu etc and near La Vella?
Will the road be snowchain only?
Sure one of you knows the answers!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Monkfish
best route ? Where from ?
Encamp will be fine - you will get the telecabine across to the top of soldeu from there anyway.
you will need snowchains if its snowing - the police demand it.

Neil, sorry to hear about the fall, one of the group in our party a couple of years back did his collar bone in too.

Monkfish, 28th Jan you needed snowchains from just outside Barcelona airport. It was bad but our taxi driver got us to Pas de la Casa via La Vella. So you should get there if you are suitably prepared. Check out snowMedia zone for pics from Rob/Sharon and me. We were there at the same time.

Got a car on hire but wondering if I'm better off with a taxi then???
How much did the taxi cost if you dont mind me asking Michael?
Dont want to be fishing around an airport trying to get snowchains if I can help it!

There were 8 of us so it made economic sense. The cost from ATS was about £70 per head return. I don't mind driving abroad but driving in snow then trying to park followed by digging the car out is not what I want to do.

ok I've stopped panicking now...
Taxi way too expensive for two of us and no other way of getting there so car it is, looking like snow only on high ground so touch wood should be ok, and I'll try to get snowchains asap when I get there. (no idea how to fit themn though guess its obvious???) As for driving on snow I would back myself ahead of most of the taxi's I have ever been in (tempting fate typing this but heyho) ...as for digging a car out well it wouldnt be the first time, all part of the fun!
Cheers for all the help

from experience of driving from gerona you'll be fine until you get north of the tunel de cadiz, unlikely to be any snow on the lower ground before that. all petrol stations sell chains, so no need to worry about getting them at the airport, only thing is, i think the only petrol station between gerona and la seu d'urgell on the route you'll take is at berga, so you'll have to make your decision as to whether to buy any about 100kms south of where the snow will be!

Think its wise for me to just get them early to be honest, especially if they are 20 euros as I think I have read somewhere here, if I dont use them then at least its an interesting holiday souvenir, may also want ot drive around to Soldeu for a bit of apres-ski too, get the feeling not much happens at Encamp

yeah its been tough. tuesday was my worst day. was a bit grumpy and shjort tempered. wierd as monday pm i was really cheery. think its mainly because the swelling etc and a bad nights sleep affected me. bit cherier now. trying hard to be happyish round friends as to not make them feel bad for going off but its so hard when they go off skiing and im stuck at the lifts watching the. got cheered up today. my mate was getting on the chair lift and missed it and fell on his ass! he didnt hurt himself so good and it cheered me up no end! looking forward to getting home. pas is a ok town to be stuck in but it does soon get boring. i agree that it could be worse. snows ok, it snowed last night but rumor has it its blown down fron top and left just ice so be warned.

Well, I'll be heading off to Gatwick shortly ready for early morning flight. Forecast looking good for snow but looks a little heavy mon/tues. Going to buy my pass on Mon am in case it's a total blizzard & lifts are closed (will have to find another way to spend that day's pass money )
Neil, hope you have a good journey home. Would offer a cyber hug but that will probably make you wince, Will dedicate my first b.o.b. (bum over boob) to you instead.

Only 4 days to go I just can't wait. Bags nearly packed and last minute passport received for wife forgot it was still in her maiden name - oops! Any news from anyone as to weather. Snow reports show flurrys of snow over next couple of days but webcam shows clear blue skys!

Pretty much how it is Quattro, every day tended to be snow overnight and in the early morning (a few cm only though) leading on to clear skies and top panda eye opportunities! Then around mid to late afternoon clouds would come over and the light would go very flat. As for the pistes well as I am still on mainly blue they were fine, still powdery with the odd worn or icey bit rare enough to be exciting rather than a pain, the few reds I went on were a little more packed, but still fine.

Just back from Pas yesterday (Sunday). Doom and gloom! Brilliant time had by all 25 of us. Spent majority of time between pas and grau. Went one day with airtours rep (free of charge) on guided tour as far as canillo. Much better skiing to be had around soldeu and el tarter, as it is not as crowded and much more varied runs. Doubt if i'll be out before the end of the season again. Picked up a new pair of elan s10 plus bindings and poles for €330, can't wait to get on them next year!!
Stayed in manzano apts which were a bit cramped but generally cheerful. Transfer home was a pain in the rear but eventually made it to gerona. Didn't lose any days skiing although had to start at 10.30 one morning due to fog/dull conditions. Nightlife great. Recommend the blau envalira on the corner for food. Milwaukee bar for starters, end up in westend/billbord or underground to round things off! 2nd time in pas and it was better than first.

justino1973, glad to hear you enjoyed Pas, myself & the girls are heading off on Sunday. The apres recommendations will come in handy too. Bit concerned about the transfer journey - how long did it take you from Gerona?

Back from Soldeu myself yesterday. Was a brilliant week but slightly gutted that my skiing only really came together on last day (thanks to Kelvin 'Baldilocks' the ski instructor) Have still got a weeks holiday to take before the end of April. Anyone fancy buddying up for a sneaky week? I'm a single girl, not too many bad habits, drinks pints or vodka & tonic depending on the occasion, don't snore & also half deaf so does mind snorers either!! Anyone?

Got here Sunday after a lengthy transfer as the coack broke down but we were quite quickly on our way to be fair. Since Sunday the weather has been fantastic and the panda eyes are coming on well. Bit cloudy today skiied from El Tarter across to Pas and back conditions great although by the end of the week could pos do with a bit of a dusting. Staying in the Hotel Euro Ski - what a top notch hotel - not quite to the standards of Sports Hotel but not far off, staff friendly, rooms superb and the food very good indeed. Oh well off for a well earned beer and then up to Soldeu to watch the footy. Tony W (Quattro)
