Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

French mountains blitzed by up to 3 meters of snow

It doesn't stop. After December's snow drought it has snowed almost every day since New Year leaving some mountain areas with 3 meters of new snow at resort level, more higher up.

Snow ploughs struggled to clear the Route des Cretes at Hohneck in the Vosges

with up to 2 meters of snow depth in places after the area was pounded by a storm on the 15th

the Beaufortin mountain range has had a cumulated 299cm of snow at 1800 meters according to Meteo France figures. All of the Haute-Savoie and Northern Savoie mountains have seen over 2 meters snowfall at this altitude.

In the Haute-Tarentaise resorts workers have struggled to dig out lifts and snow parks to ready them for skiers, upper lifts have remained shut due to the avalanche risk

I'm sure they will be running it in a couple of days along with. "How will snowfall affect house prices?"

And aren't the avalanches caused by migrant numbers? Smile

who'd have thought it, mountains having snow in winter, next they'll be saying it mostly disappears in summer.

@davidof, I think: 'Glaciers grow in Alps - ski villages threatened' would be far more alarmist wink

France only averages about 100cm of snowfall a month during Winter, so 1-3m in halfamonth is pretty significant.

really brings it home just how little snow "average" is in Europe when you compare to some of the US resorts. Jackson Hole gets 420 inches average a winter, albeit that's measured from first snowfall. so 10.5m "average" !!! Grand Targhee is 12.5m.

Staggering really. And they complain when they get 320 inches in a "bad" year wink yet that would be epic in the Alps.

1998/99 I'd love to know in La Plagne what the actual figures were as that was an insane season I did where it just snowed and snowed and snowed after a little break in Jan. I still think it was less than an Average jackson year.

But those Feb 99 storms took the base from 45cm / 110cm to over 2.5m lower / 5.5 upper !!!!!!
