Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Grand Massif links? Parking in Flaine?

Hi all

Am I right in thinking that resorts of th GM are ski linked - no need for buses from one to another? Am looking at Flaine but not sure about parking in the centre - we're considering Refuge du Golf but it's just outside the centre so, if we wanted to go into there in evening, is it possible to park? Is there a supermarket near the apartments? Many thanks for any advice Very Happy

Yes, the resorts are ski linked, no need for buses (other than if you ski down to Sixt, when you have to get a bus to Samoens or Morillon before you can ascend again.)

Yes, there's plenty of parking 'in' Flaine. Both Foret and Forum offer free parking for the first 1.5 or 2 hours (can't remember which) right where the accom and shops are. The idea is that you can drop off luggage at accom in that time, but it's also handy for short shopping visits. If you want to stay longer then you need to make sure you don't use these car parks, as they are eye-wateringly expensive (to keep central areas as close to car free as possible). Instead there are car parks very close by that are also free for the first 1.5 or 2 hours and then €3 for up to 12 hours.

There is a supermarket in Hameau, which is close to the Refuge du Golf, but since you can park for short periods without charge in the centre of Flaine, then you have the option of using those instead. There is also a big Super U at the bottom of the mountain, just before you start to ascend up the mountain road, so that is useful for a larger shop at the start of your trip.

As an alternative if set on Flaine, the Montsoleil complex is slightly closer to the centre and offers free shuttle transfers via minibus in to the centre between 6pm and 11pm (it may be slightly later) so you don't have to drive anywhere. The newer Helios apartments have a SPAR on site but would also recommend the Super-U at the bottom of the mountain just before you start the drive up to Flaine. During the day in Flaine, there is a Navette that provides free transport from up near Refuge de Golf down to the town and skiing areas.
