Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Zag UBAC vs Blizzard Zero G 95

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Does anyone have any views on the Blizzard Zero G 95 compared to the Zag UBAC in 178cm length? I'm looking for an approx 95mm underfoot relatively lightweight freetouring ski - ie light but able to hold an edge on ice, be fun in powder (although what ski isn't really?!) and hold it's own in chop/crust/crud. Intended use is multi day tours and as a more playful and nimble ski than my 184cm K2 Annex 108's for trees, steeps, couloirs etc.

I tested the UBAC last week in Cham in the 184cm length and thought it was a lovely ski - nice and playful in powder and chop but still held an edge well on icy piste so a good all rounder, but I think I'd drop a length for added manouverability and easier kick turns up steeper slopes. I couldn't find anywhere to try the Blizzard ski's but they seemed to have less tip and tail rocker and less camber when I compared the two side by side in a shop. I'd be really interested to hear if anyone had tried them both or tried the Blizzards and can shed any light on how they perform? My guess is that the Blizzards will be a little less playful than the Zags, and possibly now as fun in deeper snow but any insight from users would be great!

Cheers in advance

Rob

@rob84, Snell in Chamonix had the wider Blizzard zero g's on test so may also have the 95's. If you're open to other ideas you might also want to consider the Dynastar Mythics. Very positive review here https://www.wildsnow.com/17561/dynastar-mythic-ski-review-touring/

@rob84, wt snowHead

Concept Pro (behind the Aiguille du Midi) have the Blizzards in at least some lengths. One of the chaps has skiied them and was most impressed.

No idea where you might find a pair to try but you might want to check out http://us-store.genuineguidegear.com/collections/skis

I tried a pair of their "purer" touring skis (Spitfire, iirc about just under 80 (!) underfoot) and they were a joy in light fresh powder plus being super nice on icy piste. And featherlight.

Cheers guys - the Mythic wasn't on my radar before but it sounds like a cracking ski, although the description of it being a 'bad boy' and 'bit of a handful' makes me wonder if I'm a hard enough charger to get the most out of it (I can hold my own but I'm not mega fast and certainly no pro free rider type!)

I'm back home in the UK now so can't get to Concept Pro to test the Blizzards sadly, but good beta I'll bear in mind if I haven't bought a pair by the next time I'm back in the valley.

The G3's look lovely and I've had a look in the shop, but a mate managed to rip bindings on his G3's including two replacement pairs a couple of years ago which massively puts me off the brand. They are also pretty prices compared to the other options.

Thanks for the advice so far - it's much appreciated!
