Snow Reports

Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Can anyone recommend anywhere cheap to stay nearby for adults and kids.
Never been before as it is just a bit too far for a day trip but may be a better option crowd wise for next weekend than Cairngorm.
One sat nav route goes through Aviemore where I know we could get accommodation- just wondering if anything closer. Travelling from Fife

i suspect that you'll be going via Aviemore anyway (the roads around Braemar/Ballater took a battering in the recent storms) but the nearest village is Tomintoul - there used to be a SYHA hostel there, which may now be private. Worth searching for accommodation around Tomintoul anyway. Otherwise it's not too long a drive from the fleshpots of Aviemore, Grantown and surrounds. We're in Blairgowrie, so rarely go anywhere other than Glenshee, but hopefully someone with more experience of the more northerly hills will be along soon.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If you are looking at B&B's try Tomintoul, Glenlivet, Dufftown, Aberlour, Craigellachie and Grantown-On-Spey.
I genuinely wouldn't book anything more than a couple of days in advance though. Way too unpredictable weather wise and the access road is prone to closure. If we go there the decision is always made either the night before or first thing the same day. I've never seen it busy. Be warned it is significantly smaller than Cairngorm.

We stayed here in Ballater with our 3 kids. Lovely place, breakfasts and people!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks for info folks. Yes would just be a last minute thing if do it- would phone and book a Friday or Saturday morning for a saturday night.
Looks like it will be a few weeks now until we can take our nephews so Glenshee may have some decent snow by then
