Poster: A snowHead

Our son is sking in the races and it has (unexpectedly) just become possible for me to take time from work! The school minibus leaves on Friday 27th and we would like to keep him for a few extra days and would like to find accomodation for my wife, me and our daughter as well as our son (after the races) for the week of 28th january.
I guess we would drive out (never done that beforein the winter) and would be flexible as to resort. Any suggestions as to where to start searching at such a late time would be appreciated. Last minute air package deals from South Wales/ West Country show no availability .............. Can any snowhead help direct me?

Alun Williams, Try Iglu who can be found on the Snowshop page click on accommodation only button they appear to show quite a lot of reasonable alternatives for that week in Les Menuires.

If you want to stay in a chalet then have a look at http://www.skiworld.ltd.uk/index.php?fname=&page=65 for their late offers. Only 2 days ago we booked a trip with them for the 28th Jan and they were offering flights from Bristol. They appear to have vacancies in Val Thorens.
If you want an apartment then try www.maeva.com They have loads of apartments in the 3V area and are normally pretty cheap. You'll have to sort out the travel yourself.
Good luck.

Alun Williams, didn't see you at Menuries last week for BARSC, were you there?
Sorry, can't think of any suitable accommodation offhand...

Many thanks for the suggestions - I'm waiting for a reply from Iglu with a Cardiff flight which is showing available - fingers crossed!
PG, An elderly relative we look after was taken ill and admitted to hospital so things were cancelled at last moment.
Poma, Yes there are many schools (but I think because, individuallly they have enthusiastic and brilliant staff) that encourage the young athletes. Last year my son went with his school on the year ski trip (well over half of the academic year went) and he stayed out in France for the following few days with one of the teachers whilst the school ski team (with a couple of parents in tow) flew into Geneva for the race.

poma, if you are interested in the competitive side for future years, I can put you in touch with various people who would be able to help. With your links to the 3Vs, as things stand there are three competitions each year there in which your son may be able to take part. The BARSC races that took place a week back (individual competition plus inter-club) in Les Menuires, the Schoolboy races (great fun, took my daughter to the Schoolgirls for the first time last year and she had a fantastic time), and finally the British Championships around Easter (Méribel). Definitely helps having a base in the area in terms of cost! Races are from Minis up.
