Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

5 day layover in Frankfurt - Accessible Ski Destinations?

Hi all,

I'm about 10 days out. Looks like Austrian Alps are much improved but French/Swiss Alps have gotten absolutely hammered.

Anyone feel real strongly about whether FR/CH >>> AU right now?

Looks like Austrian resorts will have great recent snow, but I'm a little concerned about base depth.

Base is fine - you can see on the ski resort websites how many lifts/pistes are open. Expect more to open in the next few days, as they avi-clear them and piste bash them.

Innsbruck, Salzburg, Geneva should all be fine. I'd keep high though - there is talk of slightly above normal temps coming, which would make for slush in the lower resorts.

I mean, basically, whatever you do, you can't wrong at this point, unless you go to Italy....they have gotten the very short end of the snow stick so far. The Dolomites will be lovely, but a lot of artificial snow.

@kimchijajonshim, bu "hammered" you mean they've had loads of snow? In which case, with the normal local variation, and at least over 1,800m, then yes, indeed.

We skied down to 780 (carefully) in Morillon yesterday. Snow above about 1,000m was great. 1,000-1,500 ish, off piste still has some rockiness.

CH has had even more.

I live near and work in Frankfurt. The correct answer is Oberstdorf / Kleinwalsertal.

I think a new user name is required Wink

Did kind of mention Oberstdorf in my first reply. If the photos of MTBers in the Odenwald this weekend are anything to go by there should be skiing in the Schwarzwald. I will do Oberstdorf one of these years.

Yeah, I moved a couple years ago ...

We were xc-skiing in Spessart yesterday. It was ok. But Schwarzwald looks to have gotten over a meter this weekend.

Oberstdorf is definitely worth a visit, combined with Kleinwalsertal. Gets the same weather as the Alberg, but without the crowds. The village, however, doesn't do much for me. Can't be too Long a drive from Darmstadt.

Wanted to drop a line and say I decided to hit St. Anton for a couple days, then take an overnight train to visit a friend in Vienna. Thanks all!
