@glisser, it looks like the roof box hinge will impede on the skis, so the roof box will not be able to close! That's me looking at the top picture. Just buy yourself a longer roof box?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The box closes perfectly.
I bought the roof box for 15 quid, and couldnt find a long roof box for under a Ton.

I'm not sure about that! Cutting 2 slits could affect it. They do flex at speed so you may find cracking around the cuts.

@glisser, I've had to bin a roof box after a small split in it caused major damage on a journey home in strong winds with a small load.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I'd be concerned about the slots spreading, like above - they do flex a lot. Suggest a patch around them on the inside glued on with some super strong epoxy based adhesive. Otherwise looks good assuming however when it rains you might be carrying a small water trough on top of your car!

Just make sure you are not tempted by some fat skis or skis with tail rocker.
At least any potential thieves can check out your skis first to decide whether or not it worth while breaking into your roof box

|
You know it makes sense.
|
Annoying!! A few centimetres longer and the skis may have squeezed in diagonally with the tails raised.

Yes really annoying but it allows me to put all the poles in and ill just strap my skis 172cm to the roof bars.
The roof box is more or less waterproof with the gym mat foam that I have siliconed on the inside it acts as a weep crack stopper. Although I have rounded the corners off so shouldnt creep.
I can still put rockers in and fat skis surely arent thicker than 13cm?
I positioned the slots so that the metal securing straps fall under the skis so I can strap these one.
The bindings will be protected now and less wind noise and will be able to take the usually shite along with ease.
I have also modded the locking features on the box........but wont reveal that yet.
