Four of us are descending on Geneva on Saturday, three from different U.K. airports and one by car who's picking the rest of us up there.
Do you have any advice for the best place for him to pick us up at the airport to avoid any parking charges or the like?
Thanks

Hmm. These days, I don't think there's anywhere you can do that - there used to be if you were super quick. If you're travelling light enough to walk a bit, there's a building down the road towards the motorway - maybe half a mile? With a big Migros supermarket, a big café and free parking. A bit further there's IKEA if you fancy some meatballs.
However, the parking charges for short term stays in Gva are not bad - not like Gatwick.

P2 - free for less than 10 minutes, so fine if they are already out. Just tell the people being picked up to take the lifts downstairs to the bottom parking (IIRC) and then whoever is driving follows the signs in.
I did this quite a few times last winter, very easy. (Though they have have changed around the various parkings by now with work completed!)
Current P2 rates are:
0-10 minutes = free
10-30 minutes = 2 CHF
30-60 minutes = 3 CHF

Thanks for your replies, Ikea for meatballs sounds tempting. Didn't realise Swiss parking would be that cheap anyway.

Last couple of times I've picked up at Gva the car parks have been much fuller than I expected - couldn't get into P2. Don't know what was going on - a couple of Tuesdays in October?
But yes, between 4 of you the parking charges will cost substantially less than a cup of coffee - especially one in the airport.
I dropped off at Gatwick this week. Just in car park long enough to change a nappy, then my passengers headed into the terminal and I headed out. I was there perhaps 18 minutes max. £3.50. However still not too bad compared to the £2.82 I decided not to pay for an espresso at Costa in the Pease Pottage services.

It is possible to do a pick up in the “Kiss and Fly” area but a bit fraught as you really only have a couple of minutes (if that) before the staff move you on. If you are desperate to save the money this is an option.
As others have said it is not too expensive to nip into P2 (and this from a Yorkshireman).

You can pick up free round the back of the airport, in the road that is right next to the bus stop for the car hire shuttle bus. The road in question is marked private - but (to save the hassle of lugging skis/bags to the hire car garage) I've picked up Mrs MA and the luggage there for years, no problem at all.

Just pay to park in P1- it's nowhere near Heathrow prices

Don't know but anyone know what pick-up's like over on the French side? Might be a little more relaxed on pick-up wait times and also easier if your driver to get to depending where he's based.

you can only pick up on the french side if you've finished the driving speed test against Lewis Hamilton within 10s of his time.

@Little Martin, It might be better now but the road into the French side car park has been being "done to" for ages and it's been a convoluted pain. Easier to pick up on the Swiss side, no more expensive, and it's easier to get to the Swiss side from almost anywhere except Ferney Voltaire. Though having said that, if your driver is coming over the Jura, that's possible!

Just split the 6chf parking between you - will be the cheapest thing you buy all week

Have done the same as @mountainaddict, many times, but your driver will need to know where he is going. Basically drive past the terminal and down past car park P51, then turn next right and follow road around back of carpark, then at lights head straight on rather than following the main road around to the right again. Once loaded and in car, head back the way you came. If you are heading into France, before the junction back onto the main road, if take a little slip road that brings you to front of P51, you are then pointing in the right direction. If heading towards Valais and Switzerland, go up to junction, turn left onto main road, over motorway and follow signs for Lausanne.

You know it makes sense.

I find that the Eastern European hookers hang out around trendy Montreux bars to the right as you depart customs.
That would be my recommendation.

@under a new name, I thought Tindr had replaced all that malarkey - seems that this years crop of seasonnaires in Tignes are using it extensively - funny really - Jacks Club has been performing this function for 25 years.

@Nadenoodlee, sadly not really. But there are always a crop of "exotic" looking ladies awaiting older gentlemen at arrivals, I find

@pam w, only free for 3 hours and it is Co-Op not Migros. But otherwise a very useful car park if nipping into Ikea for lunch.

@chocksaway, I suspectbthe youth of today are spoiled.
But, I am sure that "I might sleep with you tonight, but I ain't skiing with you in the morning" still holds.
Can one have a drunken, much to be regretted, random encounter on Tinder? How can one properly mature without such character forming experiences?

@under a new name, wow, I've been through GVA countless times and never noticed. I'll have to pay more attention on Sunday evening when I arrive back....purely for research purposes of course.

@Whitters, Friday night might be more fruitful, as it were.
Failing that the bar in Knightsbridge (not Edinburgh) Harvey Nicks seemed full of "opportunity" any time we were in.

@DallyPaul, yes, of course it's Coop. they have a good cafeteria too. As I wrote Migros I had a doubt in my mind! That's annemasse. Thanks for correcting that - wouldn't want to send anybody off on a wild goose chase.
