Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@stevomcd, OK, I guessed that might be the case. The only evening meal out we has was in L a Coeur, it was delicious and just as importantly we could get our elderly Aunt pretty close by car! Very Happy

The team at Snocool are all great, from the independents, Alex Rippe and Carole Gauthier are both really good too. I don't know the guys at the new British ski school, Apex, yet but I'm sure they'd do a good job.

We're out in EK in a few weeks time and (weather permitting) plan a day or two o/p from St Foy. Do you recommend we contact any of the above or the guides office?
Or do you have anything going on we might be able to join?

Oh and thanks for great ongoing info!

@andyman, if you're coming from EK, probably makes sense to wander into the Snocool office up there and have a chat - they're in Val / Tignes as well as in Sainte Foy.

We're unlikely to have anything join-able. Outside chance if you're snowboarders?

We did Wednesday night in Collones and was good but was a little upset at how small my pierrade portion was. Also had a plat du jour for lunch and that was very good for E12. I've been most impressed by the beer prices, E4.50 for a bottle of La Chouffe, awesome!

Incredible day today. What a resort this is. It's hard to imagine why you would go anywhere else! L'Arpettaz today over and over, completely deserted, powder everywhere. Check it:

@FIRSTOFTHEGIANTS - we loved the quiet slopes and lifts so much last year that we'll be back next week - but how is it that the Les Marquises restaurant is always packed? I know it's a great spot but maybe that's why the slopes are so much fun... more "lunchers who ski" than "skiers who lunch"?

Les Marquises is one of the very limited options for lunch on the slopes; the other two restaurants at the top of the first chair are tiny, and otherwise it means going down to the village now the hotdog hut at the top of the second has gone.

There is a new restaurant at the top of the village just after the end of Savonnette which seems to be intending to do lunch only and outside - my husband and his friends had lunch there a few weeks ago but they had only just opened and were a bit all over the place. Anyone tried it since?

Chez Leon isn't tiny, not huge, but not tiny. I would say from the top of my head circa 40 people can lunch inside at once, maybe even more.

@Patriciaholm, Do you mean at 'White Eden'? We stayed there in January when they were midst sorting out the 'new' outside restaurant.

Lunch at Les Marquises was ok but better in resort at the restaurants near the little supermarket (bit irritating access for skiers though), or at La Colonnes.

I thought Les Marquises was excellent last April - Beautiful interior and delicious food. We did not like La Colonnes (if that is the place with the yellow canopy at the foot of the piste) - slowest service ever.

@snowymum, That was not our experience of La Colonnes. In Jan this year, all be it a quiet time, service was efficient and friendly and the food good value. Whereas Marquises was pricey and somewhat slow. Perhaps the luck of the draw! Very Happy

My children will always vote for hotdogs at Yeti Boots (or The Iceberg, since they refuse to call it by its new name) Or pizza at The Pitch (again they refuse to get to acknowledge that it's now L'Apres. Things that have been The Same Since They Were Born Are Not Allowed To Change, apparently. They are still grumpy about the swing seats and foosball table going.)

Ok, so Chez Leon isn't tiny, but options on piste are limited. I'm happy to ski through lunch, but you don't want to be anywhere near the male half of my family if that is suggested.

And yes I think it must be Eden's Kitchen at White Eden. Will have to try it again at Easter! Smile

The Pitch will always be the Pitch and I agree about the swings at the bar + the table football, both a sad loss. The Snack Shack should also be positioned in its proper home at the top of the second, not at the back door of the Marquis.

@Patriciaholm, I will be interested to hear how it is all working for them!

Their chef, Mark, is excellent and used to providing Michelin starred food. Our chalet dinners were a world away from normal chalet cuisine. In Jan the terrace only caught the sun for a short while in the middle of the day but it was a wonderful place to sit and eat our occasional picnic lunch when it did. And as a place to stay you could not have any easier access to slopes. Everyone I dealt with, booking, and experiencing our holiday there were really friendly and I wish them well with their enterprise.

The reviews are well deserved. We had a lovely stay and I would happily go back.

I do wonder how the whole restaurant open to the public bit will impact on chalet guests. We happily left laptops, phones on charge etc in the lounge area (as always not too convenient plugs in the bedrooms) along with other personal possessions, but the terrace restaurant must access off this, and if diners want to use the loo? It may loose some of its feeling of a luxury hide away.

When my husband was there they told him they were planning to serve lunch outside only; however the weather was terrible so they were seated inside (they had booked). Though even everyone being outside wouldn't get over the issue of people wandering to the toilet etc. They may not have thought this through fully!

I think there may be plans to change the inside layout for next season from what was said to us but plans seemed very fluid. However the over riding attitude and desire was to 'get things right' and they deserve to succeed with all the effort and work that all involved have put in!

I will be very interested to hear from anyone staying there, or lunching there, how it all develops!

Well La Bergerie was our restaurant of the week - great food and lovely staff both evenings we tried it and good value. La Maison A Colonnes was still very atmospheric but this time we got what was probably the last table which was right by the door and my chair was on a wonky floorboard which the waiting staff had to use every time they went in and out of the room. Food was still good though.

Many thanks to @stevomcd for the advice re Snocool. We had a 2 hour private midday lesson with Kristelle who was lovely and gave both Mrs Loganberry and me enough top tips to keep us busy for the rest of the trip. She also gave us an extra 15 mins free as she was happy to ski back into the village with us and continued to coach us on the way down.

All in all, Sainte Foy delighted us once again: great snow, superb access to EK and Les Arcs/ Paradiski and La Rosiere and everyone in the village just seems to enjoy life and enjoy helping visitors to a great little ski area. We are already planning to return next year.

Oh and best value for lunch for us was a baguette at Yeti Boots with maybe a choccie stop at the snack bar by Les Marquises....
