Does anyone know of doggy day care facilities/dog sitters in Bourg St Maurice? We are bringing our 10 month old dog this year and would need day care on occasions where both of us will be skiing.

@Loey, not easier to leave in kennels in the UK?

From others in the Alps, it is not easy to find day care or dog sitters on a formal basis, usually friends or family will do the dog minding. Ours is happy to stay in the apartment while we ski, but we've never left one as young as 10 months before. Is he/she crate trained? We don't stay out all day, and will often go and collect her at lunchtime if we return to the bottom to eat. Not so easy if you are in Bourg St Maurice though.

We really want to take him with us. He is trained. Just thought there might be day care like in UK for company more than anything. Thanks a lot for your replies.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

wouldn't the dog be happier in their own home for a week with a dog sitter as opposed to a 12 hour car journey including train or ferry, then left whilst you ski in a strange apartment with a stranger (if you can find one) and then taken out to restaurants etc, then taken to a strange vets for full health check, tick and flea treatment then 12 hour car journey home including train or ferry?
Or get a pet/house sitter and leave your dog at home.
No that I'm generally against dogs being taken over seas on holiday but not really one where the nature/purpose of the holiday is one where you're going to be out most of the day without them.
That said you will probably be able to find a "seasonaire" who'd do it for a few €s

I don't like taking our own dog when we won't be around in a strange place, but as we go 'home' 4/5 times a year it is already a familiar place for her. She gets plenty of walks in the snow. We do leave her to go skiing, but I don't like to make this an all-day thing though. We start a bit later and finish a bit earlier, or we will go back at lunchtime. Having said that she's been on a couple of 'bashes' to other places, including Arabba and Val Thorens. There's always someone around desperate to walk her for some reason if we plan on being late back.

Ah, I forgot to point out, we own an apartment in BSM and stay for about 5-6 weeks during the ski season and sometimes in summer so wanted him to get familiar with surroundings. I will post if we do find day care or similar in case anyone else needs this facility. Thanks again everyone.

@Hells Bells, i completely agree that a home from home is different, we lived with ours out there so was no issue being left during the days when we went skiing but reality was we only every got half a day at a time due to work commitments, then when we came back to the UK on holiday we would bring her with us, but we'd be with her most of the day whilst we were on holiday at it would be longer than a week!

Ah @Loey, that changes things massively on my thoughts too.
To find a dog walker suggest you get on the Les Arc facebook group and i'm sure you'll be flooded with offers.

@Loey, Why not try your local vet where you'll be staying (and presumably use for the return home worming etc) they often have adverts/flyers on their noticeboards.
