Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Nick-o, take it easy now, go for a walk rather than a run, etc. You don't want to damage anything before you go.

IMHO, you need a base level of fitness from doing whatever you do when you are not skiing ~ I do swimming, mountain biking or walking about 3 times a week (not each, in total!) plus Canadian Exercises most mornings ~ which are basically just a set 15 min workout of sit ups, push ups, leg raising, star jumps devised for the Canadian Air Force in the 70s, but still the standard stuff that's peddled nowadays.

Then 3 or 4 months to go, I do a "Ski Fit" video (which admittedly, is pretty girlie, but it works all the relevant muscle groups and there is probably a more macho equivalent out there). Also do a bit of cross training at the gym, but not a great one for the gym because I get bored and feel like a hamster on a treadmill.

Also go to the nearest dry ski slope once or twice just before I go ... I read a theory you can avoid DOMS [Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness] on the slopes by doing this. DOMS is caused by tiny tears in muscles, which then heal and make the muscles stronger so by doing this you get over the soreness in Blighty before you go. It all sounded a bit unlikely to me, but has actually seemed to work... Anyone else know anything about this?

Also watch a few DVDs on skiing techniques just to remind myself of the basics. And print out piste maps off the web.... and spend hours looking at snowHead !

Well, that's all folks! Not that i get really excited about my ski holidays or anything.... Embarassed
