Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Looking for ski buddy for week comm either 16 or 23 Jan 2016

Looking for ski buddy for week skiing starting either 16 or 23 January 2016. Not booked anything yet, but would prefer Austria, and will be going with Crystal Ski from Newcastle (as there are not really any other options from Newcastle).
I am male, mid 50's, capable skier (reds, blacks), but I don't do off piste.
Like to ski hard all day, then go for apre. Not into late nights and heavy drinking though.
Normally go with wife, but she can't get hols from work.

You could fly from Newcastle to Zurich, then take the train to Zermatt...:

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes I could, I could also fly to Geneva or Chambery from Newcastle, however by the time I pay for flights, transfers and hotel it comes out much more expensive than a Crystal Package deal. As a for instance Just booked a week in Soll, half board at a 4* hotel for less than £450, that included flights, transfers and good quality hotel.
You just can't beat that value, so I'm reluctant to do it any other way.
That said, if anybody can come up with a reasonable deal I am willing to consider it.
I work on the philosophy that I can afford several hols at £450 a time, but obviously the more expensive the hol, the less left to go toward the next one.

Thanks for the response though.

Doug have you been to Soll before? Love the place been four times. There's always been a good contingent there from the North East. If you get a great deal there is a Facebook thread called 'Soll, Austria skiing regulars with over 500 members. Post on there and I bet you will have no problem in finding appropriate ski company and of course après.
More than happy to discuss Soll further as a ski area etc.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

What about ~£500 inc HB hotel, transfer, lift pass, ski hire and ski buddies? Wink
Last I looked flights were £56 rtn (although you'd need to go from Manchester)

Hi Scarlet Fez,
yeah been to Soll many times, love it. Great ski area and probably one of the cheapest ski resorts in Austria. I have never used facebook so might have to get the wife to have a look for me. I work in IT but have never used facebook. Maybe that's because I work in IT Smile

Admin,
Not a bad deal, but the breaker is having to fly from Manchester. There are lots of deals available from Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Southern Airports but all those add time and cost. I'm not totally adverse to flying from one of those, but obviously I would much prefer to fly from my local airport. Problem with Newcastle is that flights are limited and Crystal/Thompson are the only tour operators that provide ski trips from there. Also there are no scheduled flights from Newcastle to Austria so a charter deal is the only way to get there. The further north you get in the uk, the wider the N-S divide gets!

Doug. A lot of the Irish Soll visitors mostly fly into Munich which is relatively close but a pain if you have to sort your own transfer out. Seen a few of them on the FB thread I was on about. Some do 4/5 day trips. What you can save by booking direct against single occupany can get cancelled out by the price and hassle of arranging the transfer.
Nice bit of snow at Soll Ellmsu and Going over the weekend.

Yeah, saw the snow over the weekend. Already booked for 2nd Jan with the wife, still trying to find buddy for trip later in Jan though. Can't fly to Munich from Newcastle unfortunately. Options are really limited from the North East.
