Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Brenner Pass - does it often close due to snow?

I might be crossing the Brenner Pass a couple of times next month. I've not done this route before, so wondering if its susceptible to closing due to snow if my drive coincides with a big storm?

@rob@rar, I've crossed it once (from Italy to Austria) in moderate snow. The outside lane had a bit of covering but the inside lane was clear. I was much more worried about visibility. Not a really big storm though.

No. It isn't that high and it's a major autoroute so first to be cleared.

I've been over it when it was hooning down with snow but everything kept moving OK. It would be a heck of a detour if it did ever close.

@rob@rar, I don't think it gets closed very often (if at all) - it's a pretty major route - but during big storms I often hear of very slow traffic and jack-knifed lorries etc.

Coming back from a certain San Cass trip a couple of years ago and having done my usual fairly tight flight booking, I was a little perturbed to wakeup on the coach in the middle of a snow-storm on the Brenner in mid-march. Of well that's the pay-off for the PM ski on the way out. Still we tucked up behind a snowplough and despite only making progress at 20mph or similar we arrived at INN only about 30 minutes later than target time, strolled to the empty EasyJet desk and got on the plane no worries..

We drove most years for probably 10 in total. We never encountered it closed, or even close to being closed. Madeye-Smiley
