Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Does anyone know is the road (D1506) from le Chable to Chamonix open for vehicle traffic in the winter months?

It is open, unless it snows heavily.

@Crusader, I've traveled that road often during winter months. The col de Montets gets closed very occasionally if there is heavy snow or sometimes if its threatened by avalanches. For most of the winter it will be open but you will need to have winter tyres.

Will give you the current situation at any time and is very reliable. The line Argentiere to Valorcine is the one to look at. If the col is closed they will direct cars through the railway tunnel but this is very time consuming as it has to be co ordinated with the trains! The tunnel option has not been used for the last two years due to engineering works.

Thank you all for the reply. I am actually planning to go there at end of March, so I think I'm safe.

Shame. I love the concept of driving through a railway tunnel

Guys, just one more question - I am planning to drive from Aosta to le Chable at Easter via Chamonix, do I need a Swiss Vignette for the section between Martigny and the Swiss/French border?

Tunnel option is in use again - it was running a few days back (14th Feb I think), so the route is reliably open.
