I have been checking regularly trying to book a chamonix ski pass and was wondering what dates It will be available to buy the winter pass without it referring me to buy the summer lift passes.
I was also reading on this forum somewhere about buying an under 16s pass as an adult for cheaper, but this to me doesn't seem worth the risk of getting kicked off the lift... however my friend said he is going to chance it. Will he get caught if he uses a child's pass and anyone have history of using a child's pass to save money?

A rather stupid idea. The Lifties get an indication on whether the pass being used is a child or adult. If they see an adult with a child pass then they are likely to confiscate it on the spot. Your friend will then be faced with having to buy an adult pass on top of the child pass they have already bought. They may also be stuck on the wrong side of the mountain making getting back to base a bit of a challenge.

Are you planning to ski from your illegally parked caravan?

There's a good chance of being caught, the bleep on the gate is different, plus they can fine you as well.

Anyone using their rapid card pass thingy? and is it worth it?
iirc the break even for making it pay is about 10-12 days skiing. I do like the idea that you are only charged when u ski.
p.s. also does it work in Courmayeur & verbier like the unlimited chamonix pass?

the only thing to watch with the rapid card is that it doesn't do half days, so if you go out for just the afternoon you'll get charged for the full day.
don't think it works in other resorts though.

I've got a rapidcard, got it for 3€ a couple of years ago on some seasonnaire deal (that wasn't limited to seasonnaires!)
Whilst it doesn't do 1/2 days etc you do save a bit every day and get discounts like every 7th day free, which roll from season to season. The top-bin at GM is included in a day pass too and there are exclusive early/late season deals. I usually only go to Cham for a long weekend once a season but for 3€ it was worth it just to avoid queuing at lift pass counters every morning. The card renews automatically every year, supposedly for the €25 discount rate but I haven't actually been charged for that as yet - didn't use it at all last season (was out mid-Dec and had to drive to Cervinia and Verbier just to ski!) and didn't pay anything at all. Prob will be out for 10 days over 2 trips this season though so hopefully will have a decent saving.
It doesn't work in Verbier or Courmayeur, no, and there's no discount in either (AFAIK) for having one - or on the tunnel. For me, it works because of its convenience more than anything

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Yes wonderful idea until. They not only charge you for everyday the pass is used wrongly, they will not sell you an adjusted price - they will prosecute you for fraud - since this is after all a criminal offence,
could be 20,000€ or three months - but by all means go ahead and the detection technology is way better than 5 years ago.
Hey your choice!

I have to confess, I would be hesitant to use one for this reason exactly, cmb's systems are "disorganised" at best...

@eddiethebus, was @Saint, not referring to the idea of using a child's pass? Rather than the rapidcard? Friends of our have used the rapidcard successfully for a few years.
