Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The second run of the women's GS looks to be on live as well as both runs of the men's race. This is on International Eurosport not British Eurosport though. The schedule looks to be the same on Das Erste.

@moseyp, I am looking at the TV guide for British Eurosport and you're right, it only has the highlights at 3.00 pm for the ladies as obviously women's sport is not as important as men's rolling eyes . The men have both runs live on Sunday. I am sick of it! Even if you pay separately for the Player you still get the same British version. You can't choose to have International.

I guess they're not exactly new anymore, but the larger turn radii skis, and all the skidding (sorry, 'stivoting') they have to do to compensate.

@clarky999, were you at Sölden or watching it on TV? I was right by the third intermediate timer on the first run today and slightly higher up and further away to avoid the drunks and smokers for the second run. Take a look at my Facebook page which will be updated as I process the 1000+ photos I took over the past 2 days

@hawkwind, conditions are the best for 5 or 6 years, I've been coming here for quite a while and am hard put to remember when we had not only 2 sunny race days but also the training days were spectacular! Those "flat" are not as flat as they look and the Wall is a bloody-sight steeper as the course workers slide demonstrate. Even on the "flat" the workers were wearing crampons as were all the helpers between the nets.

I had to listen to the Village Idiot (aka Nick Fellowes) a couple of times as the commentators go around talking to the various TV and radio commentators during the TV breaks. He prattles just as much meaningless rubbish live as he does on the TV I saw him later this afternoon running from the commentary box, probably to the loo as in his haste he almost charged me down as well as a group of kids waiting to get autographs from the skiers as the left the Press Centre.

Now waiting for Eurosport Germany to show the Wallabies vs the Pumas match but they are still broadcasting some tennis match sadly!

Well, I hope nobody recorded the second run on British Eurosport. EPG said Eurosport 2 (which was also what the first run was on), so that's what my Virgin box recorded. Except it was actually on Eurosport 1. Luckily, I was in at the time so I did get to watch it but I wouldn't have been impressed to come home to watch it later and find f*&^ing snooker.

Is it so difficult to change the EPG when they decide to change the channel? rolling eyes

I had to Sky+ the second run of the mens' race and sat down very late last night to enjoy it in the peace and quiet. Very disappointing to find effing snooker had been recorded instead due to the channel switch. Saw the first run however and I'm finding it a bit samey - needs some fresh faces.

@Pruman, you obviously missed Roli Leitinger who started with Bib Number 39 who made it to the second run at 26th, therefore started 5th in the second run. He then creamed the slope, posting the fastest second run and ended up in a 3-way tie for 6th place with Kristofferson and Neureuter. Not bad for his first ever World Cup start maybe? wink

@Pruman, he was clearly one of the best in the first run as well, but Eurosport had already switched off by that time as I saw Nick Fellowes bumbling around trying to look like a coach in his long "coaches" coat as Roli came down the hill in the first time!

Watched that final run while on holiday in the Dolomites , right down to the line and had been watching most of the season.
Although i give Lara Gut a chance this year against the Americans.

I dont know much about it all , just a lifelong fan of Ski Sunday and the Olympics but with the availability of Eurosport you gain more knowledge when watching over a season, i just love watching them go insanely fast on ice , i know how i feel when i hit a small patch on a moderate red slope , fearless and probably a bit mental

hawkwind, which year were you watching? wink

Anna is seriously injured and therefore out for the whole season. And Maze has taken the year off (partly because she had no choice) to finish her university degree before the regulations change in September 2016. Mind you she was at the Sölden races on Saturday and Sunday looking really fit and healthy as she is training but not competing (just yet). The rest from competition is obviously doing her good.

@Samerberg Sue,
Sorry just saying it wont be the same this year without them Sad

Perhaps you could shed some light on Anna and her position with the Austrian Ski Team , i understand she spoke out against them but its only on social media and mostly in Austrian.
What little i understand is she wants to have more control over her immediate team and that conflicts with the national team.

I admire her spirit for speaking out but dont want to say too much as i dont know the full story.

@hawkwind, Anna has (or had, I'm no longer 100% sure) a German manager who organised her PR and sponsorship - he worked out a deal with Mercedes which got up Peter Schröcksnadel's (president of the ÖSV) nose big time as the ÖSV are part sponsored by Audi. However, the deal was that they would use Anna's Cheetah Preservation work as the background and Mercedes would pay money into the charity she has set-up (or supported not sure which). They were only going to use a non-sjkiing photo of Anna, so although it ran close to the bone, it did not contravene the rules. Schröcksi also runs a media management firm handling most of the big stars affairs in Austria - he pulled Marcel into his fold last year (summer of 2014) and Anna was the last (wo)man standing out against him. Schröcksi is a similar character to Blätter and runs a similar closed shop set up. After a lot of back and forth, a compromise was reached and Anna was given more or less the same deal about her own specialist team as Marcel. If nothing, else the general public began to be more aware of the ÖSV and its utter ruthlessness under Schröcksi.

A friend of mine is a former ÖSV national squad speed (DH & Super-G) skier and the sheer disgust at how the athletes are treated as cash cows with little or no regard to their physical or mental health that she has for the set up, especially since Schröcksi took over, has to be heard to be believed. Some of the tales she has told me really shocked me to the core. They are totally ruthless in the pursuit of money for themselves as well as for the federation.

@Samerberg Sue, thanks for the insider's insight! Why did Maze need to take this year off? It seemed so strange given that at her age she may only carry on for a few more years?

@lynnecha, Maze needed the time out whether she was aware of it at the time or not. The Slovenian government have introduced new regulations for matriculating from university courses and the period of grace ends at the end of the current academic year. Tina had completed all bar the final semester/courses (not sure exactly how it worked). If she did not finish her course this year, she would have had to start all over again under the new system. The fact that she has been competing continually since the age of 15 in the World Cup AND also maintaining her grades sufficiently to stay on her courses (she did her school leaving exams while travelling on the WC circus), speaks volumes for her ability to focus. Competing as she does in all the disciplines as successfully as she has, and studying intensively in the off-season, must have taken it out of her. She was carrying a virus infection most of last season as well. When I saw her at Sölden last month she was looking fitter and healthier by miles than when I have seen her at the races the past 2 or 3 seasons. An interview she gave at Sölden makes me suspect that she may do one or two races some time this season, but that is only a gut feeling.

@Samerberg Sue,
Thats pretty much how i interpreted it and i only have further adoration for her and her stance and her WC win under that external pressure when racing for Austria.

She is so young to have such a clear vision of the greed at the top of the organisation and to put her career on the line to speak out about what she felt was right.
Its a great thing for the younger generation and with the use of social media it gets out there without the paid media misleading.

Bit put off now by Hirscher , he has the money and power to also make a difference , this all ties in with where the sport is heading with the Olympic scandal , apparently next one will be pay per view or away from terrestrial tv anyways so im sure people like above will gain massively.

Fantastic insight and tempted to ask for some of the juicy stories Smile
I got a lot of it from her Facebook but also met a couple from Austria in my shop buying a laptop and they were chatting about it saying what you are about PS , so 100% being talked about by the wider public.

I think its a sign of the times all over the world in all areas!

Thanks again for your post Smile

@hawkwind, I would not think any less of Marcel, he is very close to Anna and they often train together. He was able to push Schröcksi far harder because he is male and was able to play "hard ball" with the ÖSV mafia. He still has his own staff and his father is given special coaching/technical status. The patronising attitude to females within the ÖSV hierarchy made it way more difficult for Anna to negotiate before Marcel pushed through his deal. His deal also set the precedent that Anna needed to push for the best one all round for her including her personal physio and other personnel. As they had given Marcel all he demanded, they had to do the same for Anna. I believe (but am not certain) that aspects of Anna business are still handled by Karcher (her German manager), she is too loyal to people that have helped her simply to dump him. The patronising attitude of Schröcksi towards Anna was amply illustrated in his post "tiff" statements and interviews, where he gave the impression of an exasperated father being forced to reprimand a recalcitrant child. He showed her absolutely no respect as Austria's elite female athlete at all. I came close to busting my TV watching his posturing.

Begs the simple question , when the two most successful athletes in the team and seemingly others have lost confidence in him.
Why and how is he still heading the organisation?
leads back to the general feeling the world over with the most publicised being Blatter.

@Samerberg Sue, thanks for the reply about Tina. I have followed her career over the years and she always seems to be eclipsed by Lindsey Vonn in the personality stakes, but her performance in the season before last was absolutely amazing. So looking forward to the new season as it will be interesting to see how the new talent shines through with so many of the 'big names' out for the season or retired. Thanks for the info - great to get the inside track on some of this stuff.
