Poster: A snowHead
|
I've had a pair of K2 Apache recons for the last few years, an all mountain ski that I've enjoyed thoroughly. I'm now living in resort and will hopefully be skiing most days of the season so I'm wondering if having a pure piste ski as well will increase the fun by much. Is it worth buying a new pair?
I generally ski on piste but will jump off the side whenever there is some fresh stuff.
And advice appreciated

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

The Recons ARE pure piste skis by todays standards, and quite outdated now...
Definitely worth upgrading if you live in resort, and two pairs definitely make more sense than one. Where are you based? There are plenty of bargains online leftover from last season, and shops in resort will also be looking to flog last seasons gear cheap in the opening weeks of the season.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I'm down to 3 pairs! Just sold a pair of 97mm under foot twin tips. So my stable consists of new and untested Blizzard Latigos (78mm), Volkl Kenjas (88mm) and Liberty Envy Powder 106mm. Hmmm.....I can see a gap..must resist the urge to fill it!

@DJM, As soon as you have more than one pair you will always be on the wrong ones !

@clarky999, I've been looking round the shops and on line and see what you mean about the Recons.
So I'm now thinking 2 new pairs! 1 piste and 1 All mountain, hopefully this will keep me happy for a while.

go for something soft snow biased and 105-110 in the waist, you'll use that most of the time when conditions are good*. If the snow is hard your recons will be fine but you could add something racy and technical to make the most of when conditions off piste are not very inspiring. Then my prediction will be that you never ski the recons - one of the others will always be the better option.
* you could go for a total powder ski 120+ but I think you'd get much more use out of something a bit more adaptable.
