Don't like the drive around Paris and the Reims route seems so much quicker. 2 hrs to Reims, and other 2 to Dijon and you have broken the back in 4 hrs, never recalled via Paris being as quick, but maybe we drive quicker/more direct these days.
Chamonix is just over 6.5 hours is achievable... Anything via Chambery starts to drag..

RachelQ, Good choice. Have done both routes. Reims/Troyes/Dijon is at least an hour quicker. (if you are headed for the Alps).

magriggs, I just bought a GO 700 too, I notice there are free ( for a month ) Tom Tom Plus services which includes 'safety' camera alerts. I wonder if this includes France and if so is it lega to use one in France as use of radar detectors is not as far as I am aware.

CP, I heard a story of UK drivers having a difficult time convincing the Gendarmes at Calais peage that a sat nav was not a radar detector. Only having the users manual convinced them!

CP, I agree with what boredsurfin, says.Take the manual. We use a GPS based radar "detector" as well as Sat Nav. Because the "detector" works from a database, it is legal to use in France. The owners manual has the legality statement in several european languages.
