Poster: A snowHead
|
Looking into visiting Japan around Easter holidays 2016, which falls late March /early April. Hakuba and Myoko are appealing and Niseko is of interest too. The trip would be to either Honshu or Hokkaido, not both.
The question : is this too late in the season to experience great snow conditions?
Opinions much appreciated.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

It will be open, but it will feel like it is closed....empty, deserted, most bars and restaurants closed, but the lifts still running.
You'll be lucky to get any good fresh snow or powder....but there will be loads of snow on the mountains.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Too late for powder, really, especially on the main Island; it's just too far south so even if you're lucky enough to get a good storm the snow will cook very quickly.

Thanks for the feedback. Loving those Kiroro vids Mike, great March conditions. Would you say Niseko generally get similar conditions to Kiroro in late March / early April?

My pleasure.
Yep similar at the top.
Biggest difference is the base areas of Niseko United, Moiwa and Rusutsu are at approx 300m
Base area at Kiroro is 570m
At that time of year it can be significant.
