Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Thinking/trying to convince the other half to do either Christmas week/New Years week skiing this year! Which is going to require somewhere comfy with good food and some nice spa/pool facilities..

Never been before but fancy trying Ischgl. (Zermatt bit expensive, EK etc a bit crowded plus not much non chalet accomm). Any recommendations on 4* hotels? Couldn't find much by searching the archives..

Cheers!

Hopefully you have deep pockets Toofy Grin

Most hotels in Ischgl are 4 or 5 star so there are plenty to choose from. I suspect you may be more limited by who still has accommodation available that week - the area is very popular and they do get booked up. I've definitely posted on this before, I'll see what I can dig up for you.

Maybe these will help:

I'm sure there were more helpful suggestions... Sorry. Maybe you will get some more up to date info anyway. Probably best to contact the tourist office through the Ischgl website with your dates and requirements, and then come back when you have a shortlist.

Pretty much what @Scarlet, says although there is only 5 star. Lots of 4 and 4* plus to choose from. A number of tour operators go there but don't cover all hotels. To get a comprehensive view have a look at:

You might need to book soon, the first time I went skiing there with a largish group admittedly for xmas /NY Ischgl was full and we had to stay in Galtur though that was over twenty years ago.

Stay for both weeks....Hotel Elizabeth (4*) have two rooms available still from 20th Dec for two weeks.... each at £19,399 (discounted from £22.461) according to booking.com

There are cheaper and more expensive alternatives wink

Good luck.

Here are my tips for finding the best hotels and good prices:

www.booking.com

The map feature is especially good, so you can see exactly where the hotel is. But sometimes you have to zoom in to see all hotels in a given area.
Hotels may show as fully booked; but often they are not, and/or just the www.booking.com allocation has been used up. Try calling the hotel direct.
If you do want to deal with the hotel direct; then ask them for a discount as they are not paying the www.booking.com fee.
Note that in Austria, by law, hotels must refund all your money if you cancel with more than 90 days notice.

GoogleMaps

Find the resort you want to search, and then click the "hotels" link to show them.
You will find many hotels here that are not on www.booking.com. Some hotels don't like paying the fee (10% or more?) to www.booking.com; but GoogleMaps is free.
You call the hotels directly in this case. Again, you need to zoom in and out.

Resort Websites

These can be a gold mine of available hotels at great prices.
For some smaller, local, hotel owners, this is all they really know, and you will find hotels on such sites that are not on www.booking.com, nor on GoogleMaps.

Tour Operators

These folks buy rooms in advance, and sometimes, can be cheaper than booking direct.
They might also have availability; whereas the hotel will be fully booked. i.e.: The tour operator my not have sold all their rooms.

Good luck and have fun!

We usually stay at a cheap hotel with no frills, a 1970's decor but a great location but on our first trip we stayed at the Christine - http://www.ischgl.com/en/relax/accommodation/online_booking/detail/christine_dmd-7955?towns[]=402&randSeed=NaN&mp=0

The 'best' hotels are probably the Elizabeth as mentioned - http://www.ischgl.com/en/relax/accommodation/online_booking/detail/elizabeth_dmd-28717?towns[]=402&randSeed=NaN&mp=0 and Trofana Royal - http://www.ischgl.com/en/relax/accommodation/online_booking/detail/trofana-royal_dmd-37737?towns[]=402&randSeed=NaN&mp=0. Elizabeth's more designer hotel vs. the more traditional feel of the Royal. Not stayed in either but enjoy dropping in to the bar at the Royal as it's a great place for a My-liver-can't-take-another-night-of-Ischgl-apres drink before dinner.

The search on the Ischgl site's quite good - though if you want to be IN Ischgl check where a hotel is on the map as the location filter isn't as reliable as it could be - http://www.ischgl.com/en/relax/accommodation/online_booking/liste?towns[]=402&randSeed=NaN
