Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Silvretta Montafon Early December

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I noticed that the ski season starts on 3rd Dec in Silvretta Montafon Austria and just wondered if anyone knows how reliable the snow is ( "in a normal year ") this early ?
or if anyone has any resort stats on how often the ski start date has been cancelled in the past ?

Thanks in advance

I've been living there for just under a year, so don't know what a 'normal' season is like, but last year the area started opening around the 14th. Snow was the worst in years though and it wasn't until just before Christmas that the majority of the area opened up.

It gets a good amount of snow, like everywhere else in the north west corner of Austria, but it's noticeable that we get 15-20cms less from the major storms than the traditional 'stau' areas like the Arlberg, Nordkette, etc.

OTOH the area is a lot quieter, so there's less rush to get freshies, and has some of the best tree skiing I've had the pleasure of in the Alps.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

clarky999 Thanks for that. Yes last year was bad almost everywhere and I guess not normal (or maybe its the new normal?)!

I was just surprised Silvretta opens before St Anton, albeit by a few days.

I think I will wait until nearer the time to decide rather than commit now to early December . Am fairly sure it should be possible to get accommodation,at short notice,in the first week of the season in Silvretta (famous last words!)

Thanks again
