In essence, is the work ever justifiable? It depends upon the criteria employed such as the benefit to the tourists and the local and national economy against the impacts environmentally and the apparent 'acceptability' of such actions.
Of course, this may not be the only criteria.
How do I feel? Well, I feel quite conflicted.................and still looking forward to my trip!

We're going back in Feb after a break of 3 years at other resorts.
I am looking forward to seeing the changes made and as @Gerry, says, it's a great resort. Something for everyone is my opinion.
I've turned to the dark side after several years skiing and so it'll be good to be somewhere I know the slopes to practice my new boarding skills on!

Must be Cretes chair? There's no Petites Cretes chair any more (I don't think) so must be Cretes chair

The big pylons are the Jandri Express, the Crete's chair does indeed run left to right near the top if the photo.

The LDA lift pass includes 1 day skiing at Alpe D'Huez. There is a bus service from LDA to ADH that runs on Weds and Thurs, you buy the ticket in advance from the Agence Transisère VFD office which is situated on the left hand side of the main street as you walk from the centre of LDA towards the Venosc side of town.

Bus ???
Who on earth gets a bus when there's a perfectly good helicopter service ?

@kbmack, I wouldn't have thought a day trip to La Grave with, as you put it "semi-novices" would be a good idea.
Regarding the actual topic I didn't have an issue with skiing back to resort last season but one of our group decided to take a lift down once or twice as we had some hard days on the mountain. We were staying a few hundred yards from the bottom of the Diable chair which you can come down on so was quite handy.
There were plenty of advertising boards detailing the project which I expect will appeal to novices and intermiediate skiers but even if it isn't complete it shouldn't prevent people having a good holiday there.

Environmental vandalism at its finest

@kioksor, How do you view the vandalism from years ago that created the resorts you happily accept today?
|
|
|
|

You know it makes sense.
|
@homers double, It could be argued though that there are different degrees of vandalism. Installation of draglifts, chairlifts etc and building some mountain restaurants where none existed before is a lower level of "vandalism" which could at some time in the future be removed if so decided; permanently reshaping a hillside is at another level imv.

Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

A flat green running along a hillside must have been "shaped" at some point, be it by farmers looking for some way to take cattle to higher ground of by mechanical means.
It has been vandalised at some point.

Just to add, I'm in favour of it all as nature will take over soon enough, the scar will heal and all will be well on SH's.
