Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Insurance Help Please

Hi, This has probably been asked before but I can't find it in search so I would appreciate any pointers to suitable companies.

We are 63 and trying to find an annual multi trip policy which will cover us for 30+ days wintersports, hard enough, but we also need it to cover us for pre-existing medical conditions.

I can only find multi trips with medical with a maximum of 17 days wintersports or 30+ days but not the medical conditions.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

@Timc, I would also suggest talking to MPI, and I mean talking to them not just doing the online stuff. We use them and, of course, are getting steadily older as each year goes by.

We used MPI last winter and my wife had a pre-existing. You have to sign a disclaimer that you understand the pre-existing won't be covered.

Whether a pre-existing condition will or will not be covered depends on the condition and the recent medical history but yes Layne you are right some pre-existing conditions wont be covered. Lots of insurers do cover older people with existing conditions subject to a separate screening which may be on lline or over the phone.

Thanks everyone, @Layne, not covering pre existing conditions is not an option for me as that can exclude me from other medical cover. I have recently been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in a relatively mild form but if I choose against cover for this after going through the medical questionnaire I get the following message:-

Please be aware that the following conditions will also be considered directly and indirectly related to those already declared;
Diabetes mellitus
Chronic renal failure
Lower limb ulcer
Neuropathy
Peripheral vascular disease
Angina
Heart attack
Mini stroke
Stroke
If you choose to exclude cover for your medical conditions, any claims concerning these ones will also be excluded as the declared conditions are considered to be linked or have contributory factors.

While I would be happy to take on the risk for the Diabetes I am not prepared to self insure for the others.

My Diabetes diagnosis while disappointing and annoying does look like the perfect excuse to get a new pair of boots so I shall be back later in the year to ask advice about good boot fitters within reasonable travelling distance from Somerset.

MPI looks quite good so I shall be trying them.

Is there a "Diabetes Society" or some such support group, if so there is almost ertainly information about an insurer who will provide the best cover for this condition.

@Timc, https://www.diabetes.org.uk/how_we_help/financial_services/travel_insurance/ , seems they do their own, but winter sports is limited to 17 days per year.

@Timc, Have you tried InsureandGo, I have only used them for short trips but they covered medical conditions no problem.

Thanks, I will try both, I just need to find a company to take on our risk, cost is not the issue.
I believe in insuring, having been on the receiving end of a rescue in the PDS by skidoo pulled blood wagon from the top of Mossette to bottom of Lindarets followed by helicopter to Linga and then ambulance to Abondance, I know how much insurance "eases the pain" both in money and worry. It's just that with 4 "conditions" between us at our age we want to get as much skiing in before we have to stop.
If we can't find an annual policy we will just have to insure trip by trip.

We use LV. Premier policy gives 31days. We're a similar vintage to you and DH has 4 significant pre existing medical conditions. You can get a quote online, premiums are reasonable. They also cover off piste "as long as you stay within the ski area boundaries of a recognised ski resort and follow the ski patrol guidelines" . Single trip insurance is often more expensive than annual.
