Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Not surprising really. I was in the Portsmouth branch collecting my serviced skis on Sunday. Massive store full of outrageously priced trousers (£110) and anoraks. Who can afford these items at full price? Pretty empty as always. Tried on an overpriced ski helmet then bought it from Edge & Wax on return home (with two lots of extra discount). Noted the £500 BCA back pack when I had bought one for almost half price from a French online retailer a couple of days before.

Admit that S&R do good sales and do price match but they must be pricing themselves out of business. Noted that Cotswolds owner are interested. Great shop with good quality gear at reasonable prices.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I picked up the S&R catalogue earlier this year & read about a (vastly priced) jacket with a special mobile phone pocket that (apparently) extends battery life. How does that work then? Other than perhaps "keeping it warm".

They've always been expensive but they've been going for years. Not from my custom though.

I walked recently from near the City to Waterloo and passed one, two, three Cycle Surgeries on the way. All over the place it seems.

The ongoing evolution of Snow+Rock has a couple of episodes of the past 5 years worth reflecting upon. The 2010 management buy-out, as reported by the FT at that time ...

... and the departure of Dion Taylor, the CEO who led that buy-out (and was involved in S+R since the early days), in 2014 ... as reported by Snow Industry News ...

Who's going to be the brain-bucket for the future of this chain?

What about Snow+Rock's much longer-established (1933) and most direct competitor - at least in snowsports - Ellis Brigham?

The family-owned Manchester-based private company plays its cards close to its chest, but in 2013 some financial results were publicly aired ...

What since then? A year later Brighams took an interesting IT initiative ...

Whenever I go in to Ellis Brigham or Snow and Rock my jaw drops at the RRPs, that said I did get my current jacket heavily discounted from Ellis Brigham. No idea how either of them sell too much at RRP.

That said Ellis Brigham used to be a customer of mine in a previous job. Bob was a really nice bloke to deal with, even if I only ever dealt with him over the phone.

Interesting, wonder if that will see ski stuff turn up in the Cotswold Outdoors shops?

More ski stuff I should say, they always have some stuff in larger branches

interesting development. I've heard it suggested that Cotswold don't do discounting - anyone want to back that up?
