Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The danger of snow on roofs has resulted in deaths in Japan and Germany.

In Gujo, Japan, a 75-year-old woman died when snow on top of her roof 'avalanched' and buried her. Report from Mainichi Daily News.

In Bad Reichenhall, Germany, the roof of an ice rink has collapsed from the weight of snow, causing multiple fatalities. Heavy blizzards have occurred in the area, also resulting in a fatal avalanche. Report from BBC News.

Meteorologists are warning of further snowfall, and the authorities are getting worried about further roof collapses in southern Germany and Austria. The blame is being put on the unusually deep, wet and dense snowpack, as explained in this report from Deutsche Welle.

The weight of the snow is bringing down trees, cutting power lines and blocking roads. The motorway from Salzburg to Villach on the Italian border was closed by police this morning due to the threat of avalanches.

This report from Reuters Alertnet.

Anyone out there in the midst of this snow chaos?

It is concerning that the ice rink trragedy should have been avoided.... why the public were allowed in when the hockey practice was called off because the building was 'unsafe' is beyond me.

Yes we are bout 45 min south of Salzburg and has been snowing for over 50 hours here. I am getting very worried about our roof . We have 100cm in the village. We lost power last night and there is a lot trees down due to the weight of the snow.
