Blimey, talk about school yard grass, shame on ya Don, rubbish behavior. The fact he had an ESF jacket on says it all, does he have some personal interest in getting Simon off the hill...looks like it to me. Grass!
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Having just done my Snowsport Scotland Instructor 'alignment' course I have an alternative pathway to L2. I can completed the SSS Advanced Instructor Award and that will be recognised by the IASI as the equivalent of L2.

@Gaza,
So on-going case and this tw*t posts it on FB page ?? ( sorry for language but if they have learnt nothing by now they deserve being called this and a lot worse ).
Does he even have ONE ! single brain cell left working ?
If this was relevant fact as a good loyal ESF lapdog ( sorry employee ) he would have reported it immediately to his employer, the ESF would have arranged for a private escort for Mr SB and accommodation for the night
If this info ( as in the mailing of the letters ) is true then the sooner someone calls for an EGM and pushes for the immediate suspension of those involved the sooner BASI can start regaining respect it should strive to show it and the members deserve world wide.
Suspension is valid due to the way SB was thrown out if for no other reason. As they have admitted/conceded this there is no question of wrongdoing and thus bringing BASI into disrepute.
Goodbye/Good riddance to all those involved.
I do hope this is a windup and not connected to any BASI member the idea of it being a member is not good, and if a board member is abhorrent.

@Gerry, I think park that excellent theory for a bit.
You see, if I write a hard copy letter like that I sign it and all other copies are copies of the signed letter. Where that 3000 year old convention falls down is if someone else writes the letter, you're not around or maybe not even in the same country to sign it or even unaware it has been written, so they bung it in the post unsigned with your name on it.
The other thing that strikes me as unusual is the difference of writing style between the letter and the email - the email shows a normal or what you might call an "OK" grasp of spelling and grammar but the letter does not, far from it. Was it the same author? Probably not. Read them both one after the other and you'll sense that.
Also the sign off being identical in each case with license number. Bit odd I think. Someone being too careful or too lazy. A cut and paste from the email.
And what about the gap between the two - 6th April to 22nd April? Why so long? What went on in between?
My hunch could be completely wrong but if anyone was fabricating any documents that may end up in court as evidence, then it really will be squeaky bum time for someone.
@Pruman, well, looks like we're up to our ballsacks and clams in another mystery, gang. We better split up. Shaggy, you and Scooby check out the BASI offences and I'll bone Daphne while Thelma watches. And keep an eye out for any clues.

@Gerry,
@Pruman, presumably if these are fakes and on the BASI Facebook page then BASI Secretary should see them and be able to denounce them as fakes immediately. Or failing that, maybe someone who is a BASI member should ask him to confirm that they're genuine.

Worthy of yet another repost perhaps.... As an outsider (just a skiing punter/customer) I view the unfolding events with the BASI management with incredulity, it's the morbid fascination of watching a train wreck.... BASI - the organisation that keeps on giving.....

It seems immaterial to me whether one of those is a fake or not if at least 1 of them is real. If they are both fake then clearly there is some elaborate conspiracy going on to smear BASI which seems implausible to me when they are doing such a good job on their own. Really it seems to me an example of the worst kind of self-interest, small mindedness and cliquey behaviour that the late lamented TTT did such a good job of displaying to us - an organisation full of "good chaps" and the odd "despicable rotter" who they believe is spoiling it for everyone.
Like the detail of some sort of implied slur on SB's clients' skiing style.

@Valkyrie, I'm not saying they are fakes necessarily, what I'm saying is that I think there are 2 authors. Why would that be?
Both have been removed from the BASI Facebook page on the grounds of "data protection" - anyone who knows anything about the DPA will know there's no data protection issue.

@jamescollings, I reckon so. It's happened to me in the past at work - someone has written a letter or even once a court witness statement for me, handed it to me and asked if I'd be happy to sign (tricky). You can say something quietly and innocently at work and next thing you know your boss is demanding it in writing.

It was utterly pointless to remove it from the FB page. BASI do not have control over all the pages that it can be posted on and removing it from their page adds to the 'conspiracy ' theory.

Velma was in the ballroom with the creeper
If the documents are false. removing under DP is crazy.
Remove the documents with strong rebuttal and official BASI apology to those named ( no need to mention any names ). That an investigation has been launched and the guilty party will face disciplinary action for bringing BASI into disrepute. Any one contemplating similar smear campaigns will severely jeopardise their membership of BASI.
BASI should be enacting damage limitation at this stage so as to demonstrate to the court they are learning from mistakes, that these mistakes will not be repeated. It is equivalent to someone showing remorse for their actions, it can not harm the outcome in fact it could lessen the punishment. Showing no remorse can though invoke the risk of receiving the max penalty.

Actually I disagree to an extent - they both show a similar confusion in the use of the comma, which makes them both very difficult to parse. I'll now waste half an hour looking for an online text analysis tool to see if I can quantify this, although I'll need some OCR software too...
So I'd guess that they were both from the same place. Presumably BASI members could easily determine if they are genuine or not. I'm not sure it matters.

I dont think the argument that the documents removed on DPA grounds stands up but they might amount to defamation since they are clearly intended to affect SBs reputation or standing. This whole business is turning into what appears to be a thoroughly vicious, nasty and vindictive witchhunt and the perpetrators are doing themselves no favours vis a vis the future Court hearing IMHO. I cant imagine many people wanting to remain within BASI when it engages with people who behave in this fashion. In a commercial environment one would not wish to do business with people who cannot be trusted to behave decently and honourably.

It might also be helpful when all this is dead and buried for BASI to publish a list of all past and present and associated board members who have offered evidence, testimony or advocated a position is taken against SB. Then the public could if they wished make informed decisions about who they wished to do business with or advise friends and family.

I'm not sure you are following the sequence and getting the correct angle. In terms of defamation are you suggesting the author may be liable or the person who published them on FB?
The allegation is Don Bates (Secretary to the BASI Board of Directors) sent these letters/email to BASI in an attempt to get Simon Butler suspended/thrown-out/arrested. There was then a major screw-up by BASI where they admitted, in the Scottish High Court, they had infringed SBs human rights and to reinstate his membership. In parallel to all this there was a situation where SB and a number of his staff were arrested by the Gendarmes. It was one of those who were arrested that posted the letters on the BASI FB page. He is 100% behind SB. If you read back this thread you will find he has posted on it.
