Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Side Edge Angles.

I just found this on Epic...

Quote:
Shaped skis with a 1 degree side edge are useless if one plans on using the sidecut to carve a turn on anything other than powder or non-compacted snow. Turn initiation is identical whether you have 1 or 3 on the side edge. It's the carving or middle and end phase of the turn where 3 degree is superior over 1 degree. 3 degree side offers the best mix of edge penetration and resistance to keep your skis lively yet secure when on the edge.
The difference in offset from 1 to 3 over a rise of 2mm of side edge is minimal. However its effect on your skiing will be profound.
I can say with the utmost certainty, if one believes everything the manufacturer states regarding tuning their brand with a 1 degree side edge, will definitely not get their money's worth of that purchase whether you're a novice or an expert.

What do you reckon? Do side edge angles have that much impact?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person
yes

more effect is from how they are edged. If you use a plastic tool with a huge cut file @ 87, I guarentee that a well prepped and diamond stoned edge for both base and side at (89 say) will be better. It is about the smoothness of the edge, and depending on your style/experiance possiblysome tip/tail detuning.

The base edge (bevel) is usually much more important in the skis "feel"

personally, I like 0.5 base bevel, and to use a 3 side (87 degree in euro speak).

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?
