Twisting when riding

Some info required if anyone can help

So I'm relatively new to snowboarding I have my bindings set at +15 -15, I prefere right foot forward, however I can physically feel my right knee twisting when I'm riding, is this a beginners issue or should I adjust my bindings.

I get a twisting feeling (and slight pain) when my knee is not bending in line with my bindings. It's usually a sign that my body position is not right - usually if I'm stiff or achey. To rectify it, I try one of two things:

- to get my knees facing out I was told to imagine I had a beach ball between my knees. Usually works but if not...
- i loosen up by doing some long traversing turns where I stand up in the turn then bend right down and touch my board at the end of the turn, carrying myself across the mountain. That never fails for me.

One thing to check about your set-up to check is whether your stance is wide enough. If it is too narrow (and shops seem to set people up with a super narrow stance) you won't be able to get low enough without sticking your bum out and being slightly knock kneed. This is common with lots of riders (in my humble opinion, the majority of riders you see in some resorts have fairly crap technique - unlike skiing when people really concentrate on learning properly, snowboarders have a couple of mornings of lessons then bomb around with straight legs or knock knees for a week every year). Try the sumo exercise when you couch low and get a friend to push you gently- if you're legs aren't wide enough you won't be very stable. Keep nudging your feet wider and when you feel that they can't push you over, you might have found your ideal stance.

Hard to say what the issue is without seeing you ride, but it shouldn't be the stance angles. I ride 15,-15 myself with no issues (and I ride 75+ days per year!).
