Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val Thorens 18th April - looking for others for cheap trip

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Having spent too much in the bars on the recent Arabba bash my wife is now keeping quite close tabs on my annual ski budget.
I'm very tempted to go out to VT in April and join some Snowhead mates for some skiing on the end of season bash but really need to do it on the very cheap to be allowed another pass out.

My current research shows me Easyjet are flying from Luton to Geneva for £45 return
Transfer is £75 quid return but 4 in a car could be about £50 each - car would be good to fill with cheap food/beer at a hypermarche. We'd have to take light luggage.
Apartments for 4 are starting at about £320 per week - something decent more like £420 - about £105 each.
So the cheapest we're looking is maybe £180 for flights, transfer and accommodation

The lift pass for VT, if bought in a group of 3 or more is about £135

So we're looking at about £350 including flights/transfer and lift pass.

We'd need a group of 3-4 to make it work.

@cameronphillips2000, the prices for the bash are hard to beat, especially as that price includes the lift pass. Transfer bus is usually very reasonable too. About £50 last year. A little over your quote above, but it isn't the same if you aren't part of the group in the evenings too. Many of us stay around the apartment and cook and entertain, and while you would be most welcome, I would still say being there is better. Still less than £450

You'd still need flights on top of that price wouldn't you?

Thanks for the offer Helen, I'll see if I can get away with the bash but I doubt it.

I can get an apartment for £80 each and a lift pass for £135 so that's £215 for accomodation and lift pass.

Flights are currently £45 from Luton return.

Transfer 50 or cheaper if we pile in a car.

@cameronphillips2000, Going off your flight figures and the EoSB plus transfer the EoSB comes in at approx £490. If you hang around trying to get 3 others to share costs ( they may not even be flying from same airport so cost for them could be more anyway) your flight costs may rise as it gets closer to the date. Plus the hassle of organising the accomodation and car hire.

So is it not worth having a word with the other half explaining this and that the bash though a bit dearer is a known quantity ?

Most folks on here wanting to go to VT will probably have already signed up for the bash.

Having hugely enjoyed the Arabba bash, I'd love to come along. I'm currently doing lots of jobs in our holiday home that my wife was expecting to pay for. Hopefully, this will get me in teh good books and the savings can go towards another ski holiday.

@cameronphillips2000,

Hope you make it to VT. I just think with 5 weeks to go the risk of not filling an apartment, flight price increasing and organising it, the Bash is the easier option plus the time spent not trying to organise it will be time available for doing the work for the other half.

@cameronphillips2000, the thing about the EoSB is that, yes it may well be possible, just about, to do it cheaper but it just doesn't make sense to: it's like getting 10p off your meal and not getting desert or going to the pub that charges 5p less on a pint because they water the beer down!
Have you checked that your apart price includes, tax, linen, cleaning etc? These things can eat away at the difference fast.

The EoSB aparts are proper 'for grown-ups' places with enough room for 8 people to eat together and a separate space enough for 8 to chill and socialise + all twin/double bedrooms. There can be 20+ people in an apartment sometimes... comfortably!
So compare that with squeezing 4 adults into a shoebox where you need to fold up the beds to sit down or move the furniture around in order to eat. Of course, in that scenario, you'll need to get out and about to save going stir crazy and you'll spend all your savings (and more) on beer in the bars. The thing is, the EoSB apartments are so sociable that there's little need to go out and waste money in bars in town - of course you can if you choose, but there's really no need.
You already know what the snowHeads bonhommie is like from the S11BB - well the EoSB is like the spiritual source of that!

And then there's the ski test too! snowHead

btw. Lardy bus transfer was £50rtn pp last year - it wont be more this year.

@cameronphillips2000, You are considering going to Val T the same week as EoSB and thinking of staying somewhere else???????? As admin says French apts don't normally include linen and cleaning charge and the L'Oxalys are fab condos not tiny sofa bed/bunk bed nonsence shoe boxes and remember if you did manage to get 3 others to share with you would be falling over each other in apt. Also you don't have to pay bar prices just buy booze from supermarket and stay in or wander around apts to see whats happening. Also you would miss out on skiing/apres with all of us. Personally it's a no brainer.

@cameronphillips2000, another thought your £45 flight won't include ski carriage so presuming you need to hire. Admin gets good rates on hire and you could also test skis on wed thurs.
