Silly question but I have forgotten what the lever is for on the back of my boots. What should it do and which way do I set it for what ?

The two words are "Standard" and "Extreme", and refer to the flex, as mentioned byAlbob.

It might be "Extra" rather than "Extreme", but it gives you a stiffer flex.
