Does anyone know if you can wear UK style shorts in Austrian pools or are budgie smuggler type trunks mandatory ?
Thanks!

@PeteMan, Budgie smugglers are not mandatory in Austria AFAIK, it appears to be a French fetish!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Oh no, Austrian men love budgie smugglers – especially the chaps with fully-body fur coats and beer bellies. Don't think they're mandatory, though.

@PeteMan, Either is fine, but whichever you choose you will have to remove them before entering the spa areas

Before reading the following post about Austrians, shorts and sauna / spa functions, please make sure that you are not eating anything.
From what I have witnessed, the choice of sanua clothing of large Austrian males ( each around 120kg) is determined by absorbancy rather than anything else.
About 14 years ago whilst in Pas de La Casa, we used the hotel pool and spa daily after returning from the slopes. One day we noticed that there was no bucket in the sauna for applying more water.
The sauna was pretty full, so seating room only. There were 2 large austrian men ( They spoke german, and their car had austrian plates, so that's enough for me), plus 2 french couples, plus myself and 2 friends.
Nobody seemed to know what to do for adding water, so I went and got a spare towel from the girl at the spa entrance, ran it under the shower to absorb loads of water, then I went back into the sauna, and wrang it out over the coals. My resourcefulness seemed to get approving nods and comments from the other sauna users as there was a great whoosh as the sauna filled again with nice steam.
Roll forwards about 15 mins, people have gone out and come back in again (apart from the 2 austrians), the sauna is full once more, and the coals need liquid again.
No doubt having seen how pleased people were with my dousing of the coals, one of the large austrian guys stood up, and removed his trunks. He then proceceded to wring them out over the coals, looking very pleased with himself - there was a shot of steam that rose into the sauna, and then a stampede for the door.
I can only imagine he thought that the other sauna users would enjoy the rich fruity aroma of the sweat that had poured off his body over the course of 20 minutes, been filtered through his flabby, hairy butt-cheeks and soaked up into his generous gusset.
I am still scarred from this 14 years later.

sounds like an apt description of those wretched "hot tubs" to which some people are so keen to add their bodily outpourings.
