Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Goode ski poles

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
After probably 20 years, one of my Goode ski poles has given up the ghost (someone accidentally caused the bottom couple of inches to snap off, which took some doing).

As they have given me such sterling service, I am wondering about buying another pair, but see that they seem only to be available from Goode's website. Has anyone bought from there and, if so, got any feedback about it (e.g. do you have to pay import duties, etc?) and/or which model to buy?

Alternatively am I wasting my time with Goode and should be looking elsewhere? If that's the case, where?

Thanks in advance

I've used Goode poles (borrowed from a friend), nothing really special in my view.
You would need to pay import duty.

I've been happy with K2 carbon poles in the past, but someone bust them in a similar way to yours. Currently skiing with Leki, I like the clip in concept.

You are probably likely to be happiest with a carbon, or other light weight construction, other than that, make sure you get a good colour and it'll be fine.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Similar to both of you I had a pair of Goode composite poles for some time and when the basket came off I couldn't find a replacement. I bought a pair of K2 composites which are very similar. Other benefit of them is that I managed to get a pair of powder baskets too and it's really easy to change the baskets.

Hi Geoff;
We do not have any dealers in the UK.
We can mail your items to the UK.
If you plan on keeping the poles a lot longer, you should replace the old collet/tips
with the newer ones so you can get the regular and powder baskets. Order the parts for the 12.7mm poles, on www.goode.com or directly from us. (phone number below)
To Remove: SEE ATTACHMENT
The cost: $3 each, for the baskets and the collet/tips. $18 total merchandise.
Shipping by mail: $12
I think I have answered all of your questions. But if you need anything else,
Please contact us.
Thank you,
Rhonda @ Goode

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I have some K2 composites and though I love how light they are they do feel quite flimsy. I am always afraid of breaking them when I push of at the start as they flex so much. ( I am pretty agressive re pushing off normally ).

You'll need to Register first of course.

My Goode's were about 2002 vintage not sure whether they could've been repaired. Still got them somewhere.

I've used composites for years and am used to the flexing I guess.

I've had my Goode thin carbon polls since Christmas 1992, and I find any other polls just feel clumsy and not so grippy.
I took the straps off them when I first got and I found my daily mileage went up as I was not wasting those minutes at the top of the lifts phaafing them on.

The only snag is they may be a bit too long for me now and the hack saw is going to come out.
I think my wife bought them from a shop in Holborn ???
