Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Gare Du Nord.... access to RER ligne D

Has anyone found a luggage-freindly route to the RER line D ? The barrier for luggage is just not quite big enough for a ski bag.. although at Gare de Lyon there is no such issue ? Have any
Very Happy's found a way in ?

I don't recall there being a problem getting through the barriers at Gare de Nord, but don't think I found a special route; I just followed the signs and dragged my bags through with me.

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There are larger barriers on some of the ticket barriers.

I am assuming that you getting to the barriers after crossing the "bridge" - that's the way you go by following the standard signs. Try turning left before you get to the "bridge", you will get to another set of ticket barriers after about 100 metres.

@kieranm, Try getting a wheeled ski bag and a wheeled luggage bag through at the same time Puzzled

@AndrewsPeppers, Thanks -- I'll have a look the next time I go...

Last time I went I had that plus a rucksack and a boot bag (taking enough stuff for three weeks for me and my family who were joining me later) and I honestly don't remember there being an issue. Maybe I am using different barriers.

The ones you get to by following the signs. I don't recall the exact layout, but turn left at the end of the Eurostar platforms, down the stairs, and then along a long underground corridor. As that emerges into an more open space (I suspect this is the bridge that AndrewsPeppers refers to) go straight on. The rest is a bit hazy.

The most luggage friendly route would be to take a taxi.

As stated above, there are multiple ways down to RER level, and at least one way has one of those wide ways in that always confuse me - the ones where the doors close behind, you take your ticke,t and then there is a worrying pause before the doors in front open.
If you fail to find one of these - and i often do - then the trick is to push your bags in front of you then insert your ticket, and then move on sharpish when you retrieve your ticket. My bags just fit through - not so easy if yours don't.

If you've got heavy bags, then RER to Gare Lyon is also now my way of getting to Austerlitz. There seems to be no escalators on the way down to the metro line for Austerlitz at Gare du Nord, and when you get to Austerlitz there are a series of stairs and no escalators. Quite exhausting with a couple of big bags. Instead go to Lyon - escalators all the way, and then walk across the Seine with gorgeous views from the bridge. Only a 10 minute walk, lets you see Paris, and at night the floodlighting of Austerlitz and surrounding buildings is quite spactacular. No problem if your big bags have wheels.
Even better if you stop for a meal at the Train Bleu.

The same idea occurred to me last summer when we were staying in that part of Paris, and I've been meaning to see if it is an easier journey as you describe, so thanks for scouting it out and reporting here!
