Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Help! Mid-week to mid-week bookings

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Does anybody know of any companies that do something like a Wednesday to Wednesday or Thursday to Thursday booking, for example. I want to get away with a mate for our annual trip sometime during the first two weeks of March (2/3 March onwards) but he has to be back for Friday 13th March (that's unlucky). Toofy Grin

We want to get in a full week of decent-quality hard skiing, not a long weekend break. One of the major resorts ideally.

Thanks everyone. Very Happy

Happy skiing!

Arthur

@Craghopper mountain sun may be able to accommodate you...

Otherwise DIY is normally easy via booking.com or similar but you'll need to think about transfers

@Craghopper, Yes, probably DIY would be best. Rent a car. Ring tourist offices of the places you fancy about availability of accommodation but if you want one of the major French resorts you might be out of luck as French school hols won't finish until 7 March. And French places tend to stick inflexibly to the Sat/Sat (or if very avant-garde Sun/Sun) bookings. Might get a better response from one of the Austrian resorts.

Alternatively rent a cheap studio for 2 weeks and don't occupy for the whole time (though it won't be very cheap for the week ending 7 March in France).

Find accommodation first - that'll be harder than flights.

Mountainsun is a very good suggestion, if they have space. Can do transfers from Gva too.

Switzerland is usually good for midweek bookings though the currency might make it a bit frightening at the moment.

Alpine Elements, casey@igoski.co.uk, have just arranged a Wed - Monday trip for some of the OHs in La Tania during March, and appear on their blurb to specialise in short break holidays.

@Craghopper, definitely look atone of the Austrian resorts, that is the beginning of the low season because all the major school holidays are over. I've had no trouble booking a Thursday to Wednesday trip over Easter with my usual hotel in Altenmarkt. I won't get my regular room though as it is booked for one of the weeks, the owner did apologise! Laughing

With a car you should be pretty flexible as to where you can ski - loads in the Sportwelt Amadé or even more in the Salzburger Super Ski area for example. Fly into Munich with Lufthansa or one of the other carriers with free ski carriage and a decent baggage allowance and pick up a hire car. You may even get flights directly into Salzburg but I'm not sure if they include free ski carriage. There's always Saalbach (on the Salzburg Super Ski pass) as well or the whole of the Zillertal, and SkiWelt or Kitzbühelem Alpen

I booked a DIY mid week to mid week trip for March for Austria dealing with the hotel direct. Transfer booked via one of the companies on the Salzburg airport page. Worth contacting a few hotels direct particularly ones which are not in the main travel brochures.

SkiWeekends do week long departing Monday or Thursday in amongst their Mon-Thur and Thur-Mon offerings. I went with them a few years back and had no complaints. Their search engine is a bit of a faff but I just looked and they do have plenty of availability for the week you mention Thur-Thur.

Could try Hotel Le Chamois in Alpe d'Huez, (http://www.holidayalps.com/), they price by the night as well as by the week, so obviously not restricted to Sat-Sat bookings. We stayed there last New Year - it's a no frills hotel, but we thought it was ok and good value.

Thank you, everybody, for your responses and assistance. I've been away mountain-walking and potholing in Wales for the weekend so my apologies for a slight delay in replying. Should be able to find something amongst that mountain of ideas!

Best Regards

@Craghopper, I could do something for you either in Sainte Foy or in our chalet just outside Bourg Saint Maurice (ski at La Rosiere, les Arcs, Sainte Foy, etc. all in the same week). PM me if you're interested.
