Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just booked my second trip of the year and will be arriving in Nauders 28th Feb. I'm hoping to get to Samnuan to link into Ischl on a day trip. Anyone have any experience of the area? Tips gratefully accepted! Thanks in advance. Madeye-Smiley

www.nauders.com (in german)
www.bergfex.com/nauders
Smartphone app available as well which is quite good.

Hope you speak some German Toofy Grin We could have been the only Brits in town by our experience. English was widely understood but little spoken. You'll get by easily enough with a bit of 'pidgin german'

We went early January, a few pics here

We stayed at the Erika which is next to the main road and is a 10 min walk into town. Nice big place with large rooms and nice food. There is a village ski bus that does the same route through town and upto the Bergkastel lift station every 15 mins or so.

Nauders local skiing is a couple of k out of town on the village ski bus. There's some nice wide open easy skiing above the gondola upto Bergkastel and some more challenging skiing up on the Tscheyeck mountain, which was a little wind affected. The blues tend to the steeper side for Austrian blues. There are two independant huts the Lärchenalm, which is a small cosy place and the Goldseehütte which is bigger and next to the Tscheyeck base station.

Lärchenalm
Schirmbar / Gasthof Martha on piste 23 (shut when we went) back into town.

From the lift station another ski bus (the bus stop is by the snack bar) goes to two Italian areas. Schöneben is 10 mins away and has mountains of wide open smooth ski anywhere pistes, great fun. Further to the left the flatteringly graded blacks do get a bit steeper. Haideralm (30 mins on the bus) above St. Valentin is small but worth a day and has some great views.

Sammnaun/Ischgl will require a different lift pass to the Reschen one. Not sure there is a bus either. We did look into getting a Taxi to Scuol in Switzerland 30 mins away and Schmid quoted me €130 for a taxi van Nauders > Scuol > Nauders. Pretty sure there is a bus to Serfaus though, which is closer than Ischgl.

There is a ski ticket office in the middle of town. Crystal were qouting the high season price and we paid the €25 less low season price in the shop.

There are six hire shops. Crystal use Filirent who have a depot at the lift station.
Schishop Dilitz
Sport Nauders Spöttl
Skirent Nauders Interski
Intersport Penz

Sportalm Wassermann / Check Point two shops in town
We used the Intersport Penz shop. We had decent kit and efficient service as usual. 5% off if you pay in cash.

Outside of the Traktor bar

Yeti bar busiest place in town.
Monkey pub €0.10 cheaper than elsewhere and Guinness if you dare. very busy at apres time.
Traktor bar and Schirmbar at the Naudererhof. Bar was a bit smokey but sells Steigl beer.
Alm bar rear of the Tirolerhof. Dancing girls!
Wunder bar at the Almhof. Seemed to be closed when were there.
Small beers were around €3.10 and large around €4.30. Everywhere was also selling large bottles of Zipfer Märzen for about €3.

A few feeding troughs
Alt Nauders sells Fohrenburg beer from Bludenz Vorarlberg.
Stadlwirt home of Austria's biggest Schnitzel that we didn't get to try.
Almhof pizzeria good pizza, a bit posh.

There's also
Ibex nightclub.
M Preis supermarket with cafe and bar. Open Monday to Saturday and Sundays 15.00 - 19.00.
Nah&Frisch supermarket selling regional stuff.
Tregusto supermarket come tourist tat shop.
Doctor, pharmacy and police post by the town hall (Gemeindehaus.)
Two banks in the centre.

Typicaly it snowed on our departure day. Eight inches of new snow and the Euro tanked against the pound, we should have gone a week later!

Happy to answer any questions or reply if you want more details on anything. Oh and keep your seatbelt done up on the plane. Our landing was a bit bouncy.

It's was also cold and windy when we went. It felt colder than the stated temps and the wind didn't blow in the direction you'd imagine. One day it was calm at the top and bottom of Tscheyeck but blew hard a third of the way down. Tscheyeckbahn was closed a bit due to wind and the signboards took ages to update this status, easy enough to look over and check if it is running though.

Are you going with Crystal? The transfers are a coach from Innsbruck and then onto a minibus/taxi for the second half of the journey. There is also no rep in Nauders. You get to meet your remote rep at the airport and a phone number for them. No reps in town all week excellent.

The bus stop for the Erika is right outside the exit from the boot room (which wasn't the warmest, non heated boot racks.) The bus however does have to go round town first before heading up to the lift station, 10 mins in all.

Had lunch in Nauders one day last summer when we were driving through. Nice little town. It's not far from Serfaus, which I'd really recommend if you want to try a different, much larger, area.
